UATP transitions into the post-COVID world

The last year and a half have been a lot for all of us to process. While our staff has weathered the COVID-19 pandemic well so far, it nevertheless brought some changes to the organization. Several retirements and personnel changes have impacted us, and we are in the process of bringing in and training new staff.

We are part of a larger organization, which is now named the Institute for Disability Research, Policy and Practice, formerly the Center for Persons with Disabilities. (Read about the Institute on Disability name change on the IDRPP website.) In conjunction with this change, you may notice new colors and a new logo, but we remain committed to our mission of putting assistive technology into the hands of Utahns who need it. This is true of both our long-standing staff members and our new employees. When we see the difference those devices can make in the lives of our clients, we go home feeling great about our jobs.

At all our locations, we are happy to see clients who come in with or without a mask. We will put on a mask if you would like us to, though the mandate is no longer in force.

Our coordinators are hard at work every day, but some of them need to set aside times for work that cannot be done with the public. Keep reading for our current hours—and if you have any questions feel free to call us at 800-524-5152, or contact JoLynne Lyon.

Salt Lake City

Our Salt Lake facility has needed to scale back the hours it is open to the public, though the number of wheelchairs and scooters we are transferring is approaching pre-COVID levels. We remain open from 8 to 5 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Salt Lake City, though we ask clients to make an appointment before coming in on Wednesdays, as those days are the most short-staffed. For more information contact Robert Remund.

Logan and the Uintah Basin

Our Logan Fabrication Lab and AT Demonstration and Loan Library is open to the public Monday through Thursday from 10 to 5. Our Logan coordinator is Dan O’Crowley. The Uintah Basin’s lab and Demonstration and Loan Library remain open to the public from 9 to 5. Our coordinator in Vernal is Cameron Cressall.

Financing

As always, our small grants, small business loans and loans to purchase AT can be initiated anywhere in the state, online or over the phone from 9 to 5. Our financing coordinator is Shelly Wood.

Thank you for your patience through this time of transition!
