Hear From An Aggie

Students talking on bridge

Each year, students from all over Utah, the United States, and the world choose to make Utah State University their home away from home. Here is what they have to say about it!

My USU experience has been very personal and very unique, as is every Aggie's experience.  One of the greatest experiences of my time  was not one that occurred in a single moment, but one that is ongoing. USU has been the best place for me to learn more about myself. To discover different pieces of my identity, pieces that make me who I am today.

I have learned it is impossible to place oneself into the shoes of someone else and to expect that someone can walk in your shoes. We all have different experiences very unique and personal experiences. It is because of these differences that we are all needed. Every member of the Aggie family is needed, and we all have a place. If the place has not yet been created, we have the opportunity to create that space for ourselves and others.

I would not change my time here at USU. The lows have helped my see light and joy in the highs. Each day brings new experiences and lessons learned. Go Aggies!! The education I have gained at USU has not only helped me discover what career field that I want to pursue, but has also given me the opportunity to become a lifelong learner. College is not so much about the knowledge  we obtain, but the skills acquired while doing so. My education has prepared me to be successful in all career situations that I may find myself in, those that are planned and those that I have yet to imagine.

Finding somewhere that feels like home was the most important thing for me. USU has been that home away from home — a place where I have been able to grow and learn. A safe place for me to take my first steps in the "real world," with a support system all around me. I truly feel USU can be a home for everyone — a home for me — and a home for you.

My experience at USU is unique in the fact that I am a transfer student. Since I didn't join USU until after my freshman year, I was worried if I would feel like I am part of the "Aggie Family." On top of that, I joined USU in the year of COVID-19 and that brought its own challenges. I would definitely say that my time here has been different than others who may have transferred, and it has been hard to make friends. But, the best thing about USU is that they truly care about their students and want them to feel like they belong.

Despite the COVID-19 challenges, we still had fun events and it made living on campus worthwhile. I am very excited to see USU function at full capacity once again and feel very thankful for the time and effort they have put into their students. I can really see what it means to be a part of the Aggie Family.

As a Global Communication Major, I know that education can go into a variety of fields after college. That is one of the great and scary things about it. With that said, my academic advisor has been so supportive in talking to me about my options, and I have loved  Alumni coming back and talking to us about their experiences post-college. My classes have also been a great challenge. Some of them seem hard and confusing in the beginning, but it is not long until I see the value they hold and the growth that will come from the challenge they present. I am happy to have the support of faculty and staff and feel like I can talk to any of them about where I need to go and how I can get there.

I have loved my time at Utah State! Not only have I had some incredibly fun times, but I've grown and learned so much. I've met so many new people and made memories that will last a lifetime. From Aggie basketball games, to High Stakes Bingo, to concerts in the Fieldhouse, USU has turned my college experience into something amazing.

Obviously, the electrical engineering classes have taught me things I need to know to go into the field, but even outside of those classes, USU has provided me a number of opportunities to prepare me for my career. I've been connected with professors that are looking for students to join them doing research. I've taken classes outside of my major to help me become a well-rounded person who can communicate effectively. I've also been able to join USU's A-Team, which has taught me about professional development and leadership. Utah State has given me not only the knowledge, but also the personal characteristics that I will need in my future career.

I have thoroughly enjoyed attending Utah State. I found my place in the Service Center specifically in the SNAC food pantry, working to improve food security for all Aggies. Ultimately, this has grown into the passion that I am pursuing. I'm grateful beyond words for finding my niche in nutrition and public health.

Going to USU was the best decision that I've ever made. I grew so much as a leader, a student, and as a person in my four years here. The faculty and advisors go above and beyond for students. I know if I went to any other university, I wouldn't have had the same experience that I had at USU. It is such a positive and welcoming environment. I feel honored to be an Aggie. Through the relationships I built with professors and the IOGP program, I gained knowledge and first-hand experience in my field. These things helped me to apply and get the job that I have for the Lt. Governor's office.
