Light pollution is increasingly becoming a problem worldwide. As the nights have become brighter, the effects of increased light are becoming more prevalent. Adverse effects of light pollution have a broader reach than we tend to realize. The problems from light pollution impact animals such as birds, insects, and humans. Paul Ricketts will discuss the problems we have created by light pollution and discuss the possible solutions. Paul Ricketts holds a degree in pre-professional physics. He has worked with the University of Utah Department of Physics and Astronomy since 2005 on outreach projects and in the observatory, where he has contributed to the Digital Sky Survey. Telescopes will also be available for guided stargazing following the talk.
