International Students
International applicants who have not obtained a university degree in an English-speaking country should take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and have the score sent directly to the School of Graduate Studies by the testing service.
TOEFL: A score of 213 or higher is required on the computer-based test. A score of 79 or higher is required on the Internet-based test; departments may require a higher score.
IELTS: A score of 6.0 is required; departments may require a higher score.
If you don't have a score or you score lower than the requirement on either test, you must take the English Proficiency Test administered by USU's Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) the first day of each semester. The test will be evaluated to determine if you should be cleared for graduate study or if you will be required to take IELI coursework to further develop your English proficiency.
