Students who are offered this award by the Admissions Office and accept it will abide by the following terms and conditions. To be considered, students must meet program parameters and apply for admission to USU by the scholarship priority deadline.

Award Title

Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)

Value

$46,000 total, approximately $11,500 per year

Eligibility

  • Students must meet the scholarship index requirements for the WUE, and
  • Students must be a legal resident of a participating state: Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Republic of Marshall Islands (RMI), Republic of Palau, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming. Time the student is enrolled on the WUE will NOT count towards requirements for the resident status for tuition purposes.

After receiving an invitation to participate in the WUE program at USU, a student must do the following to remain eligible:

  • Be enrolled, cannot exceed a total of 8 semesters of eligibility
  • Maintain a GPA to remain in good standing at USU.
  • Have not accepted any other USU scholarship in the form of tuition waiver or tuition reduction (private cash awards or scholarships are acceptable).
  • Pursue a first undergraduate degree (students pursuing a second bachelor's degree are not eligible).
  • WUE is available to students attending Logan, Statewide and Southeast Campuses (USU Eastern, Blanding, Moab). Out-of-state online students are not eligible.

Students accepting the WUE are not eligible to establish Utah Residency for tuition purposes.

Conditions

  • The WUE will pay towards undergraduate tuition at Logan or Statewide Campuses (including Price, Blanding & Moab campuses) but will not pay towards out-of-state online.

Award Retention Requirements

  • This scholarship is available for 4 years (8 semesters)
  • Maintain a GPA to remain in good standing at USU
  • Students are encouraged to register full-time (12+ credits) each semester. However, the WUE will still be available if a student is not full-time status.

Accepting Your Award

  • Scholarship automatically accepted upon enrollment confirmation

Declining Your Award

  • If you confirm your enrollment to USU but prefer to decline your award, email Office of Admissions

Deferral and Notification of Leave

  • Scholarships may be held to a future semester for extenuating illness, military, or humanitarian service.
  • Deferment must be processed through the Office of Admissions. A deferral is for admitted students who have not started classes at USU.
  • To hold this award, submit a Notification of Leave. A notification of leave is for students who have already attended USU.

Terms of Award

Student is either a US citizen, permanent resident of the United States, naturalized citizen of the United States, or resides in Utah and is eligible for HB144/HB118.

The scholarship is applied in consecutive semesters (excluding summer semester) beginning the first term of enrollment at USU unless a Deferment or Notification of Leave has been submitted.  

Any unpaid expenses may result in the loss of their classes. Review payment deadlines.

Tuition can only be covered once. If the student has been offered tuition-based academic scholarships or waivers covering in total more than 100% tuition, they will contact Student Financial Support to discuss their options. 

If the student has previously received an academic scholarship, the new offer replaces the previous academic award.

This scholarship may be revoked should the student attend another institution of higher education. The student is able to attend another institution of higher education during the summer semester, but attending during the normal academic year (fall/spring) may result in the cancellation of this award.
