Emerging Leaders Nomination Form

What is Emerging Leaders and how do I get started?

This program is a 7-week experience designed to support participants in developing skills for success in their current role while also preparing them for future growth and leadership opportunities. This is a cohort-based program where participants will develop and apply leadership skills that strengthen collaboration, drive results, and increase their readiness and visibility for potential future leadership roles.

Who Should Participate?

  • Early to mid-level academic and administrative professionals who are exploring opportunities to advance to leadership positions.

How You'll Benefit

  • Identify what sets you apart as an emerging leader and how to channel your passion into tangible impact.
  • Develop communication and organizational skills that help you stand out and get more done.
  • Build the ability to create new partnerships and strengthen collaboration across teams, departments, and institutions.
  • Learn how to identify new opportunities, delegate effectively, and execute initiatives with clarity and confidence.

What to Expect

  • Values and Boundaries
    • In this two-hour course, emerging leaders will explore the connection between personal values and professional boundaries, and how both influence leadership, team dynamics, and workplace culture. Participants will identify their core values, recognize how healthy boundaries support effective leadership, and learn practical strategies for leading with greater confidence.
  • Leading From Within
    • Emerging leaders stand out not because they wait for opportunities, but because they are motivated to create meaningful contributions before anyone asks them to. In this session, learn how to identify your internal drivers to create value in a way no one else can!
  • Productivity with Purpose
    • TBD
  • From Snoozefest to Standout
    • Great presentations don’t just share information—they earn attention, spark connection, and drive action. In this session, you’ll learn how to design clear, engaging content rooted in adult learning principles, while tailoring your message to meet your audience where they are. You’ll experiment with storytelling, slide design, and interactive techniques that make your ideas stick long after you finish speaking. By the end, you’ll walk away with practical tools—and a refined presentation idea—you can confidently deliver right away.
  • Getting Projects Done Without Losing Your Mind
    • In today's world, most of us manage projects at some point. The problem is, we are seldom taught how to manage projects—we are expected to figure it out as we go! Getting Projects Done Without Losing Your Mind is an interactive session for anyone navigating work in a project-driven world. Participants will explore why projects fail and what successful projects do differently. Together, we’ll practice building project plans with tools that can be used again and again.
  • Growing Your Professional Network
    • Building a strong professional network doesn't have to feel fake and awkward; it's about developing meaningful relationships that help you learn, collaborate, and grow.
    • In this interactive workshop, participants will explore how intentional networking can improve their day-to-day effectiveness, strengthen collaboration across the organization, and create opportunities for personal and professional growth.
    • Whether you're preparing for future leadership opportunities or simply want to make a greater impact in your current role, building a strong network can help you solve problems more effectively, increase your influence, and feel more connected at work.
    • Participants will learn practical strategies for building and maintaining professional relationships, practice introducing themselves with confidence, evaluate their current network, and leave with two intentional actions to strengthen their professional connections.
  • Turning Confrontation Into Connection
    • Conflict may be scary, but if used correctly, it can strengthen relationships and improve connection. Walk away with practical skills on how to identify the real problem, communicate effectively, and find winning solutions.

The Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 cohorts will be the first cohorts of the Emerging Leaders program. To help further develop and strengthen the program, participants in these cohorts will need to complete the self-nomination form or have a nomination form submitted on their behalf by their supervisor or a colleague. This short nomination application includes questions to identify if this program is a good fit for the applicant.

Nominations for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 have been closed. Please check back later to self-enroll in later cohorts.

Participants also agree to attend each class session. Participants may miss 2 sessions of a given cohort series but will be required to complete make-up sessions. These sessions are hands-on learning sessions; thus, they will not be recorded.

Your commitment and active involvement will contribute to a successful learning environment for all participants. If you are participating in the virtual series option via Zoom, please ensure you meet the following requirements:

  • Camera On: Please keep your camera on throughout the session to foster engagement and interaction.
  • Microphone Ready: Ensure you have access to a working microphone for participation.
  • Breakout Room Participation: You must be able to join breakout rooms and communicate clearly with others (both hearing and being heard).
  • Active Learning Environment: These workshops require your full attention. Participating while driving or being otherwise distracted is not permitted. Be prepared to actively engage, which includes writing notes, accessing PDFs, and other interactive tasks.

Nominees will be selected this summer and will be notified by the Talent Management and Organizational Effectiveness Team to confirm participation in both cohorts.
