About This Program

In this graduate certificate, you will learn how to solve complex problems by integrating GeoAI technology with advanced AI and machine learning tools. You’ll be able to process and analyze large datasets efficiently to understand and address challenges surrounding climate change, land use, resource management, urban development, and more.

As AI and automation reshape the field of geospatial science, the role of human expertise is also evolving. The certificate emphasizes that while machines can automate repetitive and data-intensive tasks, human skills remain essential for interpreting data, designing inquiries, and making ethical and creative decisions. You will learn how to guide, troubleshoot, and optimize AI systems while applying higher-level thinking skills such as complex reasoning, emotional intelligence, and innovative problem-solving.

The program is flexible and can be taken as a standalone certificate or paired with a graduate degree, such as the online Master of Natural Resources or another related program. It can also be pursued alongside the online Graduate GIS Certificate, allowing students to develop both broad and deep expertise in modern geospatial technologies.

I’m enrolled in the GIS graduate certificate program and also taking classes in the Remote Sensing & GeoAI program. My focus area is remote sensing for riparian and terrestrial restoration. I’ve found the USU programs to be excellent. What makes them special is that the faculty is accessible (amazingly so), the coursework is well prepared, and there is the freedom to do class projects (with faculty support) that align with my focus. … Further, the broader USU community is very supportive and inspiring – engaged in many cool and related pursuits.
