About This Program

The school leadership post-master's certificate is designed for school personnel with a Master’s Degree in an education discipline. It prepares potential school leaders for Utah’s Schools by providing training based on the Utah Education Leadership (UEL) standards of the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC).

The Program combines leadership and management coursework with specific curriculum and instruction training to meet the demands placed on today’s education leaders. The program includes a focus on assessment at both the school and classroom levels and the effective use of data to drive decisions in schools.

The program requires internship experiences based on current USBE policies and includes clinical experiences to connect the learning activities in coursework with the day-to-day needs of modern school settings.

Examine teaching practices that support students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and ability backgrounds. This course prepares future leaders to advocate for equity and to lead with culturally responsive practices.

Understand the basics of budgeting, resource allocation, and financial decision-making at the school and district levels. Students learn to manage human and fiscal resources ethically and efficiently to support educational goals.

This course provides a foundation in education law relevant to K–12 leaders. Topics include students’ and teachers’ rights, legal responsibilities of administrators, IDEA compliance, discipline policies, and school safety regulations.
