USU Online Student Handbook | Registration

Registration includes finding and selecting the courses you wish to take each semester. You should ALWAYS consult with an advisor when selecting which courses to take.

How do I register for courses?

All online courses can be found on the distance education course search system as well as in my.USU.edu. Either tool can help you find courses to take, however registration must take place in Banner. When selecting the section in which you wish to register, make sure you select the campus closest to you, or if you are not located in Utah, find the section that corresponds to "Out of State."

You can also register in person at your local campus with a staff member or advisor.

For full details, please visit the USU Registrar's website.

How do I drop or withdraw from a course?

Prior to dropping, please refer to the registration calendar for deadlines and fee dates. If you drop after certain dates you may not receive a refund and there may be an annotation on your transcript.

If you wish to drop a course, you can do so through Access (Banner) or by visiting a local campus. To drop a course online:

  1. Login to my.USU.edu.
  2. Locate Tools and select Registration & Classes option.
  3. Select College Scheduler
  4. Select the term in which you wish to drop classes (You may not have to do this step).
  5. From the College Scheduler dashboard, go to the Current Schedule tab at the top of the page.
  6. Choose "edit or drop classes" to drop or withdraw from your class.
  7. Click Submit Changes.

If you need to drop your last class, or are having issues with dropping classes, please contact the USU Registrar's Office.

What courses should I take?

Before deciding what courses you should take you should talk to an academic advisor. An academic advisor will help you find the right courses, help you find resources if you need assistance, and make sure you stay on the right track to graduate. To find out who your advisor is and how to contact her/him go to the advising page.

Can I register for a course after it has started?

If you wish to register for an online course after the open registration deadline, complete registration options form. This form will be sent to the Instructor for Approval, and then the Registrar's Office. A notification will be sent to your student email (A#@usu.edu), when you have been approved to register.

Students who register after the open registration period may be charged a $100 late-add fee based on registration deadlines. Please see the academic calendar for late-fee deadlines.

What section should I register for?

Online courses are listed under the "Online & Supervised" campus, with campus code "I". Online courses all have "O" as the 2nd digit of the section code. For example the first online section of ENGL 1010, has a section code of IO1.

How do I get a refund?

If, due to extenuating circumstances, you were unable to comply with dates and deadlines you may petition for an academic record adjustment. Details about eligibility and limitations of the policy are avialable through the Registrar's Office. Be aware: this policy is not commonly granted and has strict requirements.

Can International students take online classes?

International students studying at USU on the F-1 or J-1 visa must have the majority of their classes each semester be face-to-face in order to meet the physical presence requirement to maintain their visa status. Students on the F-1 visa must enroll in classes at the Logan or USU Eastern campuses. Students on the J-1 visa must enroll in classes at the Logan campus.
