Full Moon Cross Country Skiing

Recreation

Glide under the full moon with us on the Sink Hollow Trail within Logan Canyon. This summer gravel road is closed to vehicles in the winter and offers snowy rolling terrain perfect for cross-country skiing. Come see Logan Canyon under a different light, and if we’re lucky, we will get to see the Milky Way through quiet forests and stunning mountain views. This trip is beginner-friendly, and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun evening in the great outdoors. We plan to ski approximately 4 miles with 500 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the late evening.

Intro Backcountry Ski Tour

Come grab some backcountry turns with us! We will venture into the Bear River backcountry to seek out snow that you can't get to on a ski lift. Learn some of the basics of backcountry travel and safety. No backcountry experience is required but you must be comfortable riding black diamond resort terrain. Participants must be prepared for strenuous hiking. Backcountry touring skis or splitboard with skins are required and available to rent for an additional $10+tax for trip participants. NO SNOWSHOES. Trip cost includes transportation, avalanche beacon, shovel, probe and student leadership.

President's Day Weekend Blind Hollow Yurt Backcountry Ski Trip

We are heading up to the Blind Hollow yurt spend a long weekend enjoying the Bear River backcountry from February 13 through the 16. We will explore some of the fantastic riding terrain around Blind Hollow and spend the evenings around the fire in the comforts of the OP's Mongolian-Style yurt. Some backcountry experience is recommended and participants must be expert/advanced riders (able to comfortably ride black diamond western resort terrain). Participants must be in good physical condition and prepared for strenuous uphill hiking.

To keep their culture and community intact, the 360 Yup’ik residents of Newtok, Alaska must relocate their entire village to stable ground upriver while facing a federal government that has failed to take appropriate action to combat climate change. Logan Canyon Cross Country Skiing

Join us for an afternoon of Cross Country Skiing on the Temple Fork Trail within Logan Canyon. As we glide along the trail, we’ll be surrounded by snow-draped pine and aspen forests, with towering limestone cliffs rising above the canyon walls. Open meadows reveal sweeping views of the canyon and nearby ridgelines, while Temple Fork Creek weaves through the landscape, partially frozen and quietly flowing beneath the snow. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun afternoon in the great outdoors. We plan to ski approximately 4 miles with 800 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the evening just after dark.

Soul Food is the continuation of long-standing traditions initiated by USU’s Black Student
Union to honor the rich traditions of Black cuisine and culture, dating back to at least 1971. Center for Community is honored to collaborate with Black Student Union to have Soul Food as the grand finale of this year's Black History Month celebrations. This year’s theme, “1940’s Night in Harlem,” brings the spirit of the Harlem Renaissance to life through food, art, and live performance. Dress to impress! Backcountry Skiing Basics Workshop & Tour

Come learn the basics of backcountry skiing/boarding with us! We’ll spend an evening in the classroom covering how to use alpine touring equipment/splitboard to get up and down the mountain, the basics of avalanche safety equipment, how to locate and interpret an avalanche danger forecast, and route planning. The following day we’ll head out into the Bear River mountains for a full day on our touring equipment. In addition to getting some backcountry turns, we’ll cover the basics of avalanche rescue, snowpack evaluation, and terrain management. This trip is geared toward resort skiers/boarders who want to learn how to venture into the backcountry safely. No backcountry experience is required but you must be comfortable riding black diamond terrain. Participants must be prepared for strenuous hiking and a full day in winter conditions, snow or shine.

Utah State University Extension connects campus expertise with practical, research-based resources that support student success and personal well-being. In this Front & Center session, Dr. Brian Higginbotham, Associate Vice President for USU Extension, will highlight Extension programs and areas of expertise that might be of interest to students, such as financial well-being, relationships, mental and emotional health, food and nutrition, and community engagement. Participants will learn when and why advisors and other student-facing professionals might consider Extension as a referral or support resource, how Extension complements existing campus services, and how to connect students to Extension resources. The session will showcase Extension resources that directly benefit staff and students alike—such as HealthyRelationshipsUtah.org and StrongerMarriage.org—providing practical tools for strengthening relationships at work, at home, and in the community.

Logan Canyon Snowshoe Hiking

Join us for an afternoon of snowshoe hiking on the Limber Pine Trail within Logan Canyon. As we climb through stands of hardy limber pine and fir, the forest gradually opens to reveal sweeping vistas of Logan Canyon stretching below. From exposed ridgelines, you can see snow-covered peaks, rolling backcountry terrain, and distant mountain ranges layered against the sky. This trip is very beginner friendly and highly recommended to anyone looking to try something new or go on a winter adventure. We plan to ski/hike approximately 1.5 miles with 200 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the evening before dark.
