Cooking demos are designed to educate, inspire, or promote new cooking skills, cuisines, or ingredients. Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences (NDFS) students will provide you with nutrition information, culinary techniques, and recipe cards that you can take home. You will also have the chance to sample the dishes that are prepared!

Pumpkin Plunge

Our exclusive panel of USU celebrity judges will be scoring based on style, splash, and overall fun, so bring your A-game! Community Rakes & Shovels Leaf Raking Sessions

Volunteer once, twice, or many times over the coming months! Upon registering, volunteers will be matched with a resident who has requested services.

This season, we are arranging raking shifts that volunteer can sign up for. We will be going out on a regular basis after the leaves start falling. After submitting your registration form, we will give you access to the shifts. Are you part of a club or group that is looking for a service project? Feel free to share the shifts with them too!

Community Rakes & Shovels was created in response to needs expressed by community members. The Christensen Office of Service & Sustainability coordinates requests for services from local senior citizens and community member with disabilities while connecting them to volunteers who would like to provide raking or snow shoveling services throughout the fall and winter.

Lake Powell Kayaking

We are heading down south to the amazing red rock and blue waters of Lake Powell to explore some of its many side canyons in sea kayaks. We will pack our kayaks with our gear and spend two nights camping on the lake. Participants must be able to swim and comfortable in open water. Trip cost includes sales tax, food, transportation, kayak equipment, tent, sleeping bag, pad and student leadership

Lead Climbing Clinic

Learn to lead climb! Our trained instructors will guide you through hands-on practice in a safe, controlled environment to build confidence and safety awareness. Register for all clinics at the climbing wall. We recommend signing up in advance as clinics will not run if they do not fill. The decision to cancel clinics is typically made before the clinic starting time.

Permaculture Garden Tour & Cleanup with Student Sustainability Club

Student Activities

Join Student Sustainability Club at the USU Permaculture Garden to learn about permaculture and sustainable gardening! We will meet at the Permaculture Garden, which is located behind Aggie Ice Cream (East side of the NDFS building) at 5pm on Thursday, October 30 for a short tour of the garden. Since it is the end of the growing season, we will then be helping remove dry crops from the garden and incorporate them back into mulch -- bring gardening gloves if you have them! We will also have materials to make seed bombs with native Cache Valley seeds. Apple cider and donut holes provided!

Legacy of Val Day of Service: Whittier Community Center Carnival

Student Activities

Help us honor the legacy of Val Christensen by assisting at the oldest community Halloween carnival in the valley! We will be in charge of a glow stick dance area at the Whittier Community Center's annual free carnival for kids. Volunteers in the morning can help set up the stage, and volunteers in the afternoon will hand out glow sticks, manage music, and dance with kids as they come and go from the stage. Legacy of Val Day of Service: Loaves & Fishes Community Meal

Student Activities

Help us honor the legacy of Val Christensen with a Loaves & Fishes community meal.

Volunteers will be helping us prepare a meal for 250-300 guests. This includes prepping, cooking, setting up, serving, interacting with our guests, and cleaning up after the meal. Two shifts are available and duties may or may not include the duties above depending on your chosen shift.
