Each year, USU recognizes the work of outstanding faculty, staff, students, partners, and alumni that exemplifies collaboration between USU and the greater community and demonstrates ongoing commitment to community engagement and positive social change. The Center for Community Engagement has three prestigious awards for students, faculty, and community members who are committed to outstanding service: The Presidential Award, the Ivory Prize, and the Val R. Christensen Service Scholarship. Deadline for nominations Saturday, March 15, 2025, 11:59pm. Award ceremony takes place Wednesday, April 16, 2025 5pm-5pm in TSC Lounges.

Intro Backcountry Ski Tour
Recreation
Come grab some backcountry turns with us! We will venture into the Bear River backcountry to seek out snow that you can't get to on a ski lift. Learn some of the basics of backcountry travel and safety. No backcountry experience is required but you must be comfortable riding double blue to black diamond resort terrain. Participants must be prepared for strenuous hiking. Backcountry touring skis or splitboard with skins are required and available to rent for an additional $10+tax for trip participants. NO SNOWSHOES. Trip cost includes transportation, avalanche beacon, shovel, probe and student leadership.

Beginning Spring 2025, this Center is now located inside the Library. Heidi Kesler will give updates on their new space, ABLE work, and help you understand how you can best broker students to these important resources.
Spring Community Volunteer Fair
Special Event
Come visit booths hosted by local nonprofits, and learn how you can make an impact in the community by volunteering! Faculty interested in community-based projects are also encouraged to attend and network with our community partner organizations. Free chili and bread, and live music by Nate Jeffries. Nonprofit organizations include: United Way of Northern Utah, CAPSA, Meals on Wheels, Public & School Partnership, Camp Hope, Stokes Nature Center, and the Flores Family Community Garden.

Whether you are close to graduation or considering going into education, the annual USU Education Career Fair for teacher recruitment is a great opportunity to meet with nearly 100 schools and school districts throughout Utah and the nation. Some will be interviewing that day, so come dressed professionally with resumes and prepared to interview. Register early to research the growing list of schools that will be attending.

President's Day Weekend Blind Hollow Yurt Trip

We are heading up to the Blind Hollow yurt to spend a long weekend enjoying the Bear River backcountry. We will explore some of the fantastic riding terrain around Blind Hollow and spend the evenings around the fire in the comforts of the OP's Mongolian-style yurt. Some backcountry experience is recommended and participants must be expert/advanced riders (able to comfortably ride black diamond western resort terrain). Participants must be in good physical condition and prepared for strenuous uphill hiking. Winter backcountry travel equipment(Alpine Touring, Telemark, Splitboard) are required and available to rent from the OP for a nominal fee. NO SNOWSHOES.

Join COSAS in Salt Lake City for our Weekend Alternative Break as we learn about and assist with approaches that organizations are taking to provide services to community members experiencing homelessness with The Other Side Academy, The Road Home, and Switchpoint. Trip fee includes travel, lodging, and meals. Register through AggiePulse (link provided).

Volunteer with Athletics United Running Sessions

Volunteer with Athletics United running sessions at the Fieldhouse. Currently, the majority of club participants are 5-14 years-old and hail primarily from the United States, Eritrea, and Somalia; however, the club has seen children from Burma, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone. On any given week, 15-25 kids show up for fun and instruction. Sign up as a volunteer through the link provided. No background check is necessary unless volunteers will be driving Athletics United participants.
