The College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences is ready for its annual CAAS Week from Sept. 14-20, a week filled with celebrations, traditions and networking opportunities for students.
This year’s theme is “Design Your Destination,” reflecting the many educational and career paths available to students in the colleges degrees and programs.
“We want to include everyone inside the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences,” said CAAS Senator Dantzel Miner. “We also want each student to feel empowered. I never want to forget what it feels like to be a part of this place and culture where you can evolve, grow and become what you want to be. We hope the theme of Design Your Destination in CAAS will help each student feel supported through their exploration and career dreaming while here in our college.”
The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, with the Utah Agricultural Products BBQ. This scholarship fundraiser food festival features local products from Cache Valley and across the state. Companies and organizations generously donate their time and food products so all proceeds can go to CAAS student scholarships. The lively atmosphere will be the perfect kickoff to the USU vs University of Utah football game later that day. Click here for more information and tickets.
Monday starts off with the CAAS Olympics and Tailgate from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the AGRS Patio and The Quad. Bring your competitive spirit and participate in various hands-on, CAAS-themed games and activities, where you’ll have the chance to showcase your skills and win exciting prizes. Enjoy some walking tacos while learning more about all CAAS has to offer.
The iconic Tractor Parade will take place on Tuesday at 10:20 a.m., with a brand-new parade route. See the creatively decorated tractors and other vehicles and gather some candy on Aggie Bull-evard and Lars Hanson Drive.
Tuesday will also feature the Brigham City Airport USU Hangar Ribbon Cutting at 3:30 p.m., an important step forward for the college’s growing aviation department.
Day on the Patio will take place on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Student clubs, local companies, live animals, and yard games will be on the AGRS patio and The Quad. The famous CAAS kebabs will be on sale for $1 (with all sales going to student scholarships).
Thursday morning features a Meet and Eat with Student Services, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., on the first floor of AGRS. Students can enjoy a grab-and-go breakfast while meeting the student services team members who are invested in their success.
The CAAS week grand finale happens on Friday at the Caine Dairy. The fiercely competitive Cow Milking Contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to try their hand at milking a member of our award-winning herd, with top milkers walking away with prizes. Immediately following will be a drive-in movie under the stars, also at the dairy — “Talladega Nights” at 8 p.m. Popcorn and soda will be served.
“It's so important to hold events like these because it unites us as a college and helps educate students about all that CAAS has to offer,” said Brinley Rhodes, communications specialist for the CAAS Council. “By giving students opportunities to get out, meet people, network, and try new things, an amazing community can be created!”
