LOGAN, Utah — Adrianne Parker, a first-year art history student in the Caine College of the Arts, recently stepped into the role of curator for an exhibition celebrating 50 years of undergraduate research at Utah State University.

This is Research: 50 Years of Undergraduate Innovation showcases the diverse and innovative work of undergraduate researchers across disciplines — from microscopy images and engineering prototypes to artistic interpretations and scientific specimens.

For Parker, curating this exhibition has been an exciting and fulfilling milestone in her collegiate career.

“I’ve always loved museums,” Parker said. “The behind-the-scenes work has always been so interesting to me, so this has been a great learning experience for me.”

Parker is currently working toward a museum studies certificate, alongside her major, and eventually plans to be an art conservator.

“My hope is to do research to find the best and most efficient ways to preserve art,” Parker said. “Curation is such a good skill to have in the museum world, so this job brings me closer to that goal.”

As the student curator, Parker received hands-on experience with every step of the curatorial process.

“I’ve done everything from research, selecting pieces, reaching out to faculty, and designing the layout of the exhibit,” Parker said. “I’ll also design frames, vinyl, lighting and I’ll even choose the fonts.”

Parker’s main objective with this exhibit is to show the community that research is more than just lab coats and microscopes.

“I’m excited to show off these people and the research they’ve done. Undergraduate research is so much more than people initially think,” Parker said. “Utah State University gives students opportunities to do research in every field, including art. We really want to celebrate the 50 years of research that has been done here and continue that.”

This is Research: 50 Years of Undergraduate Innovation will be on display in the Tippetts & Eccles Galleries Jan. 13-24. For more information, visit the online calendar listing.
