The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) is being awarded the 2023 Common Good Award. from Envision Utah. The Common Good Awards are given to the organizations and individuals who are doing great things for Utah’s future. This marks the second occasion that UWLP has been a recipient of the Common Good Award, with its previous win dating back to 2017.

The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) at Utah State University (USU) welcomes Melinda Colton as its Communications Manager and Stephanie Pack as its Statewide Impact Manager.

As women’s political presence and influence have slowly continued to increase, the way they have been represented in the media has also evolved. The purpose of this brief is to bring to light how the media portrays female political figures in Utah.

Though the role of a journalist is to report about the world objectively, the very nature of public media puts these professionals in a visible and trusted position. In choosing which stories to tell and how to tell them, reporters and producers naturally influence attitudes and beliefs. Media professionals can positively impact women and girls in the broader culture.
