Undergraduate Math Club

Meeting

The Undergraduate Math Club at Utah State University is a weekly seminar for undergraduates interested in mathematics and related areas. The club is an informal setting to learn some new math and meet some new friends. The club is open to all students, there is no need to sign up and you can come as you please.

The goal of the semester is to prepare for the Putnam Contest and the Intermountain Math Competition (IMC). The latter is a fun, proof-based competition involving universities in the intermountain region which has taken place each fall since 2009. The IMC, which is comparable to a "mini-Putnam exam," uses only knowledge of calculus and high school algebra and is a great opportunity to practice your problem solving skills! The competition will take place on a Saturday morning before Thanksgiving break and will consist of seven problems to be solved over three hours.

Spooky Scavenger Hunt

Recreation

Join the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) and the American Mathematical Society (AMS) for a Spooky Scavenger Hunt on Monday, October 26th at 6 pm in Family Life Link 201. We will be eating pizza and then using your math and puzzle skills to solve the mystery of the Calc 2 murder. We will be doing some activities outside so wear warm clothes. This event is open to all students!

Mathematics & Statistics Education Group Seminar

Conference/Seminar

Kaitlyn Serbin & Rosaura Uscanga from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley & Mercy University.

Dr. Uscanga focuses heavily on how students reason through concepts in algebraic environments. Dr. Serbin explores how advanced mathematical structures are internalized and taught, specializing in teacher preparation, and how students apply linear algebra to solve problems in physics fields like quantum mechanics in collaboration with Megan Wawro.
