CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer & First Aid

Workshop/Training

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid course is to instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to first aid, breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest. This is a blended learning course, you should expect a direct link to the online content to be sent to your email 3 days prior to the course to complete the online learning content prior to the start time of the course. Wilderness First Aid Course (WFA)

Workshop/Training

This course is a great introduction to wilderness medicine and basic life support skills. It is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast who wants more than an urban first aid course provides. The emphasis of the class is on recognizing and treating life-threatening traumatic and medical emergencies, common wilderness injuries, bandaging and splinting, and environmental injuries. CPR is included in the curriculum.

We will pack our kayaks with our gear and spend two nights camping on the lake. Participants must be able to swim and comfortable in open water. Approximately 20% of Americans are effected by Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD which is triggered by a lack of sunlight during the short, cold, dreary days of winter. People with SAD tend to over-sleep, but still feel groggy and sluggish, crave simple carbs and gain weight, and are sensitive to light deprivation the year-round. In Part 1, learn the biology of thriving in winter and how to use bright light therapy, the clear, evidence-based treatment of choice for SAD, as well as Vitamin D information, to help you through.

In Part 2, of this workshop series on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), learn the psychology of thriving in winter. We will help you to identify unhealthy thinking patterns that significantly contribute to SAD and shape them up! We will also learn classical conditioning principles and apply them to help you make a healthy and enjoyable Winter Plan. Cognitive therapy is an evidence-based approach to treating SAD and also very useful for those of us who just don't care much for winter!

Turkey Trot 5k

This is a fun run/walk 5k on Friday, November 17th at 4pm. Join us with your family and friends as we take you through our beautiful campus! Registration is $10! Students, log-in with your A# to get your discount price of $5. We will have awards for the top three female and male finishers. All participants will receive a reusable bag and race bib when you register and show up to the race. Also, we are collecting nonperishable food items to be donated to the Family Place!
