Legacy of Val Day of Service: Kids' Activity Stations with Athletics United Tutoring

Student Activities

Honor the legacy of Val R. Christensen by lending a hand running three activity stations for the kids who attend Athletics United regular tutoring program. There will be three stations set up in the small study rooms on the second floor of the Logan Library (in downtown Logan, not on campus), and the elementary-age kids, many of whom have refugee or immigrant backgrounds, will rotate through the rooms. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with kids, rolling with the rotations, and staying enthusiastic! Sign up in GivePulse (link provided below).

Sunset Spin Class

Recreation

Watch the sun set on the Aggie Legacy Fields with our Sunset Spin class. It will be a high-energy cycling session set to motivating music as the sun goes down. Ride through hills, sprints, and intervals while enjoying the perfect end-of-day atmosphere. Class will start at 5:30pm and be about 45 minutes to an hour long. All skill levels welcome! Class is free with a group fitness pass or just $5 without. Spots will be limited, so register quickly. Weather-dependent, the class will be moved inside if needed.

Cross Country Ski Trip

Join us for an afternoon of Cross Country Skiing on the Franklin Basin Road within Logan Canyon. This summer gravel road is closed to vehicles in the winter and offers snowy rolling terrain perfect for cross country skiing. As we glide along the trail, we’ll be surrounded by snow-draped pine and aspen forests, with towering limestone cliffs rising above the canyon walls. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun afternoon in the great outdoors. We plan to ski approximately 4 miles with 1100 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the evening just after dark.

Basic Life Support Course

The purpose of the American Red Cross BLS course it to train healthcare professionals including nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, and other healthcare and public safety personnel to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children, and infants. Yes, you're reading the title right, we're hosting our own HYROX-inspired event this spring! The series will include 3 miles of running, with 6 muscular endurance exercises. Participants will run 1/2 mile in-between each exercise. We'll have 3 heats available with men's, women's, and co-rec groupings, and the competition will be open to USU students and faculty/staff, as well as community members. There will be prizes for the top 3 finishers in each heat.

Lake Powell Kayaking

Join us for a weekend of paddling Sea Kayaks or Sit-on-Top Kayaks on Lake Powell. Kayaking here surrounds you with vast, awe-inspiring desert scenery shaped by water and time. Narrow side canyons invite exploration, revealing hidden amphitheaters, shaded alcoves, and winding waterways. At sunrise and sunset, the cliffs light up with warm color, and the calm water mirrors the canyon walls, creating a peaceful, almost surreal paddling experience. In the evenings we’ll camp on the lakes edge and stare at the constellations. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun weekend of paddling and exploring. On Friday we will pack all of the food, water, and gear into the kayaks and paddle to the Moqui Slot Canyon. Each day we will paddle 6-8 miles as we explore the Lake and Moqui Canyon. All participants must be able to swim.

Full Moon Hike

Hike under the full moon with us on the Crimson Trail within Logan Canyon. Come see Logan Canyon under a different light, and if we’re lucky we will get to see the milky way through quiet forests and stunning mountain views. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun evening in the great outdoors. We plan to hike approximately 4.5 miles with 1200 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the late evening.

Aggie Rec Triathlon

Join us Saturday morning for our annual Aggie Recreation Triathlon. The race will be a 55-yard swim (11 laps), a 12-mile cycle on a spin bike, and then a 5k run. There will be 5 wave times at 8:30am, 9:15am, 10am, 10:45am and 11:30am. All registrants get a shirt and a race bib. There will be post-race food as well as various food and water stations throughout the race. Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female finishers. Registration is currently open until March 20th or when filled.

Earth Week Legacy of Val Day of Service: Spring Planting at Wuda Ogwa

Join us as we honor the legacy of Val R Christensen and support the Northwestern Band of Shoshone in their efforts to restore the ecosystem at Wuda Ogwa (located outside of Preston, ID).
