Intentionally Quieting Your Internal Voice: Teaching and Learning with Radical Listening and Mindfulness

Abstract

This presentation will describe the presenter’s experience teaching ENGL 1010/2010 at USU using radical listening as a key part of the course. Additionally, the presenter will share her narrative of simultaneously embracing the concept of listening with intention within her own pedagogy. In this session you will learn the definition and key concept(s) behind radical listening, and will take away from the session tangible ideas for implementing radical listening into your own life/pedagogy.


Hannah Stevens

Graduate Student Instructor

Hannah L. Stevens is a PhD student in the Technical Communication & Rhetoric (TCR) program at Utah State University (USU). Her research interests revolve around the rhetoric of public policy documents. Currently, her research investigates the intersections of race, police violence, and public policy through an analysis of the law enforcement ‘Use of Force’ document, pinpointing areas for disruption to the cycle of oppression.
