What is the waitlist?

Each year, beginning on April 1, Single Student Housing sign-ups shift from the traditional sign-up process to a waitlist process. The waitlist is a way for students to choose from and sign up for on-campus housing spaces as they become available.

This is a general, campus-wide waitlist, encompassing all Single Student Housing buildings and is not building specific. This list is only for students who have not already signed a Housing Contract. Students do not need to pay the USU Enrollment Deposit prior to adding their name to the waitlist. However, students will need to pay the USU Enrollment Deposit prior to selecting an available space. The housing deposit and contract fee ($275) will be paid as part of the sign-up process once an sign-up offer email is sent.

Sign-up links expire after 24 hours

Make sure to use an email address that is checked often. Also, set your email to allow anything from usu.edu to go directly into your inbox and not your junk folder. Be aware that once spaces become available, students will be notified via the email address provided. Sign-up links are sent Mondays and Wednesdays as rooms and bed spaces become available after May 1. 

The sign-up link used to select an available space(s) will expire after 24 hours of being sent. 

If you are sent a sign-up link and choose not to select a space from what is available, you may choose to re-add your name to the bottom of the list and see if something more desirable becomes available.

On-Campus Contracts for Sale
Students can explore the on-campus contracts for sale which are updated occasionally as students with 2026-2027 contracts change their plans and list their contracts for sale on the Housing website.

Off-Campus (Private) Housing
There are various privately-owned properties around Logan which rent to USU students. Learn about living off campus and view helpful tools and resources to help you before signing a contract.

USU Eastern
There is still availability at our USU Eastern campus in Price, UT. Start attending Utah State University at one of our statewide campuses or online and finish in Logan.

I already signed up for housing, but I want to live in a different building. Can I add my name to the waitlist?

No. If you have already signed a Housing Contract, you cannot add your name to the waitlist. The waitlist is only for students who do not already have a housing contract. If you'd like to live in a different building, please use the "Building and Room Change" process/tool in the Housing Portal, which becomes active on May 2, to change your booking before move-ins.

Do I need to pay the Enrollment Deposit to add my name to the waitlist?

No. You don't need to pay the USU Enrollment Deposit in order to add your name. Keep in mind that when Housing reaches your name on the list and sends you an email with available spaces from which to choose, you will need to pay your Enrollment Deposit before choosing a space.

When do I pay the Housing Deposit?

The Housing Deposit will be paid, along with the $75 non-refundable contract fee, as part of the sign-up process. This will take place after you receive an email offer from Housing to choose a space and sign up.

Are there waitlists for specific buildings?

No. There are no building-specific waitlists. The Housing Waitlist encompasses all Single Student Housing buildings on campus.

What if I find my email after the 24-hour window has passed?

It's important, when adding your name to the waitlist, to use an email address you will check often. Beginning May 1, please check your email on Mondays and Wednesdays and look out for an email from USU Housing. If you do not respond within 24 hours, your offer will expire and we will move on to the next batch of names on the list. You may add your name to the waitlist again if you'd like. Adding your name after missing the 24 hour window will place you at the bottom of the list again.

What if I don't like any of the options I'm sent in my email offer?

If you don't like any of the options sent to you when we reach your name on the waitlist, you can either add your name to the waitlist again to see if something more desirable becomes available later on, or you can sign up for a less desirable choice and utilize the "Building and Room Change" process in the Housing Portal, which becomes active on May 2, to change to a different building, based on availability.

What if I'm not comfortable waiting for a space to become available?

We are usually able to accommodate most students who add their names to the Housing Waitlist. However, if you'd rather not wait for a space to become available, you encourage you to watch the On-Campus Contracts for Sale page to purchase someone else's on-campus housing contract. By doing so, you will be able to see exactly where the space is located (i.e. building, private or shared room, meal plan requirement, etc.). 

You can also look at the plentiful Off-Campus Housing, or privately-owned, properties around USU's Logan Campus to find an option that works for you.
