New USU-Brigham City Building to be Unveiled Dec. 1

The new classroom and student services building at Utah State University's Brigham City campus opens with a ribbon cutting ceremony Dec. 1.

Utah State University-Brigham City will unveil its new classroom and student services building to the public Tuesday, Dec. 1. A ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m., and an open house follows from 2 to 5 p.m.

The new, 50,000-square-foot building includes a 250-seat multi-purpose room, a 130-seat auditorium, a testing center, a computer lab, classrooms of various sizes, a receiving room with four single-student stations and two teaching studios. Courses will be taught by faculty both in-person and broadcast via the Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) system.

For students who are working, have families or aren’t able to move to Logan to take full-time, traditionally scheduled classes, USU-Brigham City provides a quality education that may not otherwise be available. Classes are taught by USU-Brigham City’s 13 full-time faculty with advanced degrees from universities across the United States and 17 part-time faculty and professors at other USU campuses via IVC.

The new USU-Brigham City building, located at 989 South Main Street, was designed by Jacoby Architects in Salt Lake City, constructed by R&O Construction in Ogden and funded by the state of Utah, Brigham City and generous donors.

Bridgerland Applied Technology College’s Brigham City campus will also expand as a result of this new building. BATC will move into part of USU’s current space on 1100 South starting January 2016, and USU and BATC will have shared facilities for new programs in robotics, composites and other technology training programs in part of the current complex on 1100 South.

A new campus would not be possible without the support of local businesses and members of the community. Residents still have an opportunity to become a part of the new USU-Brigham City campus. Spots for new donor names are still available in the paver stones that grace the south entrance of the new building and surround the Aggie block “A” pedestal. Other classroom naming opportunities are also available. More information on donation opportunities can be found online.
