Honors Student Advisory Board

Agriculture & Applied Sciences

Deborah is a junior studying nutrition science with a pre-med emphasis. She is a Nutrition, Dietetics & Food Sciences (NDFS) ambassador, a tutor, a volunteer with various off-campus programs, and works in a local hospital within the nutrition department. When she's not working or studying, Deborah enjoys reading, going on long runs, and oil or watercolor painting.

Art

Hazel is a senior in the BFA Photography program with minors in art history and entrepreneurship. She loves taking photos that tell stories and sharing those stories with others – something she is currently working on in her Honors Capstone project. In addition to serving on the Honors Student Advisory Board, Hazel is the Managing Editor of The Utah Statesman and a peer advisor for the University Honors Program. Off campus, she loves to read, craft, and spend time with her friends and family.

Business

Samantha is a junior majoring in finance and communication studies and a member of the Huntsman Scholar Program. She is passionate about business, leadership, and lifelong learning. Her academic interests include corporate finance, financial analysis, and strategic communication. Samantha aspires to build a career in investment banking in New York City, where she hopes to advise companies on major financial and strategic decisions. She values community involvement, meaningful relationships, and opportunities that challenge her to grow as a student and future professional.

Education & Human Services

Emily is a junior studying elementary education with a minor in disability studies. She is participating in an early master's program for ELED, but she plans to finish her master's after a few years of teaching. In addition to serving on the Honors Student Advisory Board, she is an aid at a local elementary school and a peer advisor for the University Honors Program. Emily absolutely loves to travel, and she hopes to go on more adventures after she graduates from USU. She also enjoys playing golf, reading, swimming, and playing games.

Engineering

Anderson is a sophomore majoring in civil engineering. He enjoys getting involved, meeting new people, and finding ways to help students feel more connected on campus. Because of this, he is part of several organizations in the College of Engineering and across USU, where he enjoys planning events, building community, and supporting student involvement. When he is not at an event or in a meeting, you can probably find him locking in at the computer lab, working on homework, research, or whatever assignment is due next. As the College of Engineering representative, Anderson is excited to get to know more Honors students, listen to their ideas, and help create a stronger, welcoming community within Honors and Engineering.

Humanities & Social Sciences

AJ is a sophomore studying law and constitutional studies as well as criminal justice and pursuing minors in American Sign Language and sociology with a certificate in law and society studies. He loves being involved in every inch of campus, whether it is supporting his college, working with Residence Life, or participating in a variety of other campus organizations. AJ always strives to build a strong community wherever he goes by planning campus events or supporting Aggie athletics. When AJ isn’t on campus, he loves building LEGO and dancing. He’s dedicated to always hearing out feedback and will do anything he can to improve your Aggie and Honors experience.

Natural Resources

Ashley is a junior majoring in wildlife ecology and management with minors in recreation resource management and sociology, along with certificates in applied geographic information science and social analytics. She is vice president of The Wildlife Society student chapter, the peer advisor for the Natural Resources Department within The S.J. & Jessie E. Quinney College of Agriculture & Natural Resources, and is involved with the Berryman Institute through outreach and event planning focused on human-wildlife interactions. She is also gaining undergraduate research experience studying human dimensions of black bear coexistence. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, paddleboarding, creating nature-inspired art, and spending as much time outside as possible.

Science

Ian is a senior majoring in cellular and molecular biology with minors in chemistry and psychology. He is passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration and bridging the gaps between fields of study. On campus, he conducts research alongside mentors Chris Smith and Srijan Seal, where he studies the division of labor in ant colonies and how controlled muscle breakdown in ant queens influences nutrient reallocation and reproductive success. Prior to his current work, he made his introduction into undergraduate research in the bioengineering department working under Ronald Sims. In addition to serving on the Honors Student Advisory Board, he also serves as the teaching collection curator for the USU Entomology Club. Outside the lab and classroom, he enjoys reading, writing, fishing, hiking, and biking.
