The USU Honors Program offers various opportunities for alumni to meet and mentor current Honors students in fields related to their own. Honors Alumni Connect pairs first- and second-year students with Honors alumni and introduces students to this type of mentoring with three targeted, yet casual conversations over the course of one semester. The more intensive Honors Alumni Mentoring Program fosters year-long professional relationships between Honors juniors or seniors and alumni mentors, helping to build and sustain our Honors alumni network. "Ask an Honors Alum" allows current Honors students at all stages of the program to ask an alum a targeted question in a brief email exchange or Zoom call facilitated by Honors staff.
In the Honors Alumni Connect and Alumni Mentoring Programs, mentors and students connect monthly by email, phone, video-conferencing, or even in person, as circumstances allow. USU Honors facilitates and focuses these mentor-student partnerships by giving students specific topics and guidelines and ensuring monthly connection with their mentors. The topics of the monthly check-ins range from general discussions about the value of Honors in the Alumni Connect experience to more specific professional tasks (such as creating a resume, building a professional network, interviewing effectively, and using social media professionally) in the Alumni Mentoring Program.
If you are interested in mentoring an Honors student in any of these programs, please contact the USU Honors Program at honors@usu.edu. In addition to these programs, Honors also supports a LinkedIn group, and we would be happy to contact students about any internship or job opportunities that you would like to publicize. Please send specific inquiries and/or information to our Executive Director (kristine.miller@usu.edu) or to honors@usu.edu.
