The Helen B. and Lawrence O. Cannon Scholarships pay tribute to two superb teachers and mentors, with awards made possible through the generosity of their family and friends.
The Helen B. Cannon Scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding Honors student majoring in the humanities/arts, education, or social sciences, while the Lawrence O. Cannon Scholarship is awarded to an exceptional Honors student majoring in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics. The merit-based Cannon awards support Honors students with distinguished records who demonstrate exceptional promise for future success.
Eligibility:
Active, engaged Honors sophomores or juniors (rising juniors or seniors) with a minimum 3.5 cumulative/USU GPA in a declared major in the College of Arts & Sciences, the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education, or the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business (Helen B. Cannon) or the College of Engineering, the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, or the Quinney College of Natural Resources (Lawrence O. Cannon) who demonstrate clear progress toward graduation with University Honors
Selection Criteria:
- Overall academic merit indicated by a cumulative/USU GPA, as well as evidence of university honors and/or awardsÂ
- Evidence that the student will complete a capstone project and graduate with Honors
- Evidence that the student has completed some form of publicly visible work, such as exhibited art work, publicly presented or published research, community projects, or other visible work or contributions
- Expression of coherent future plans to help make the world a better place through further study/research in the discipline, public service employment, law/medicine in the public interest, advancement of beneficial technology, or other significant contribution to the public good
