Prior to beginning the Housing Contract Process, students must first be officially admitted to Utah State University as a student. USU begins accepting applications in September.

Pay Enrollment Deposit

Once admitted to Utah State University, students must pay their Enrollment Deposit and confirm their intent to enroll at Utah State University.

Minimum Credit Hours

After signing up for on-campus housing, undergraduates must take at lease 6 credits, graduate students must take at least 3 credits, and summer housing residents must take at least 1 credit or have a job (on or off campus).

Admitted to Utah State University

Prior to signing up for on-campus housing, students must be officially admitted to Utah State University, as a university A-Number, or student ID number, is required for sign-ups.
Students may begin applying for USU in September of the year prior to their beginning fall semester.

Pay Your Enrollment Deposit

All incoming undergraduate students pay a non-refundable $200 enrollment deposit to confirm their intent to enroll at Utah State. Think of this like an RSVP to attend USU. This allows the University to project the right number of classes and resources for the coming year. The deposit covers:

  • $50 New Student Services fee
  • $150 prepayment of tuition and fees for your first semester
The Enrollment Deposit must be paid prior to signing up for on-campus housing. Please note, this is not required to be added to the housing waitlist.

Minimum Credit Hour Requirement (after signing up)

Although students don't need to be registered for classes before signing up for on-campus housing, they will need to be registered for the following credit hours, according to their classification, to maintain eligibility:
  • Undergraduate students living on campus are required to enroll in a minimum of 6 credit hours.
  • Graduate students living on campus are required to enroll in minimum of 3 credit hours. 
  • Summer housing is only open to students enrolled in a minimum of 1 credit hour or working at least 30 hours per week (on or off campus).

Contract process begins December 1.  Beginning December 1, sign contract with building selection.  Beginning February 15, sign contract with assured space on campus.  Waitlist process begins April 1.  From April 7-16, residents who previously chose a building will choose a room and bedspace within that building. Following this selection phsae, those who signed up after Feb. 15 will chose their building, room and bed space.  The contract canellation date with a full $200 security deposit refund is April 15.  Beginning May 1, spaces will offered to those on the waitlist according to availability.

Housing contracts canceled on or before April 15 are eligible for a full refund of their $200 housing security deposit.
Students with a building and room selection time slot after April 15 will have an extended cancellation window.

Spaces will be offered according to date added to waitlist based on availability.

Housing Contract Sign-up Process Steps

The academic year housing contract process is a two-part process that must be completed in full by the student. If both steps are not completed in time, housing contracts will be canceled. 

Part 1: General Information, Sign Housing Contract and Pay $275

Part one of the housing contract process includes gathering the following information and payment, as well as signing and completing the housing contract agreement. 

  • Personal Information
    • Lifestyle questions
    • Emergency contact information
  • Contract agreement (found online on our Housing Contracts, Rules and Policies page)
  • Pay $275 ($75 non-refundable contract fee and $200 security deposit). You will be prompted to make this payment once you begin the sign-up process as one of the steps before completion. 
  • You must complete all steps in Part 1 of the housing contract process by the deadline dates in order to receive a room selection reservation time. 

Part 2: Building and Room Selection

Part two of the housing contract process includes building and room selection. During this phase, students will select in which room type they would like to live, such as private room, shared room, semi-private room. Students will also choose where in the the building they would like to stay, and by doing so, they will be choosing roommates.

December 8, 2025- January 3, 2026 Contract Process After a brief pause to complete building and room selection, the contract process will resume on December 8 and continue until spring semester move-ins on January 3, 2026

Contract Process Steps 

Please be prepared to complete the entire sign up process which takes approximately 10-15 minutes.  You will not be able to exit out and resume the process, you will have to start over again.

Completion of the entire sign-up process includes booking a building, room, beds pace and meal plan (if required).  Your Spring Semester contract begins on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with check-ins from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Part 1: Information, Sign Contract and Pay $275

Once you have been admitted to Utah State University and have paid your enrollment deposit, you may begin Part 1 of the Spring Housing Contract process. Part 1 of the Housing Contract Process includes gathering the following information and payment, as well as signing and completing the housing contract agreement:

  • Personal Information
    • Lifestyle questions
    • Emergency contact information
  • Contract agreement (found online on our Housing Contracts, Rules and Policies page)
    • Read and sign the housing contract electronically. This is a legally binding so don't just skim through it.   If you are under 18 a parent or legal guardian will be also be required to sign the contract.  
  • Pay $275 ($75 non-refundable contract fee and $200 security deposit)
  • You must complete all steps in Part 1 of the housing contract process by the deadline dates in order to receive a room selection reservation time. 

Part 2: Building and Room Selection

Part 2 of the Housing Contract Process involves building and room selection on December 4, 2025. Time slot assignments for building and room selection will be sent to students on December 1, 2025.

February 12, 2026 Current Resident Request for
2026-27 Housing Application
The application request process opens on February 12, 2026,
at 9am and includes filling out a short form with basic information.
Those who successfully request an application will sign a housing contract and choose from available buildings and rooms February 17-19, 2026.
February 17, 2026 Sign-up Period for
Same-space Retention
If provided with one of the 800 limited-quantity applications, current residents who wish to retain their same bed space will complete the Contract Process during this phase.
Requires $75 non-refundable contract fee.

New-space Selection
If provided with one of the 800 limited-quantity applications, current residents wishing choose a different building or bed space will complete the Contract Process during this phase.

Current Resident Contract Sign-up Process Steps 

The academic year housing contract sign-up process is a two-part process that must be completed in full by the student.

Part 1: Request a Current Resident Housing Application (February 12, 2026)

Part one of the Current Resident Contract Process involves requesting an application/ contract link. Please note that spaces will be limited for returning residents for the 2026-2027 academic year. In an effort to provide more bed spaces for incoming student, only 800 current residents will be allowed to request an application.  

Beginning at 9am on February 12, 2026, residents will request an application by filling out a form including:

  • Name
  • A Number
  • Whether you would like to retain your same bed space or choose a new bed space

Part 2: Sign Contract and Select Building and Room (February 17-19, 2026)

Part two of the housing contract process includes building and room selection. 

  • Personal Information
    • Lifestyle questions
    • Emergency contact information
  • Contract agreement (found online on our Housing Contracts, Rules and Policies page)
  • Pay $75 non-refundable contract fee. You will be asked to make this payment during the contract process.
  • Room selection
    • If you chose to retain your same room during the application request, you will confirm your room during room selection on February 17, 2026.
    • If you would like to choose a new room or building, you will do so during the building and room selection February 18-19, 2026.
  • You must complete all steps in step two of the Housing Contract Process by the deadline dates in order to confirm your on-campus housing assignment. If a student fails to do so, their housing contract will be canceled.

Waitlist

Beginning April 1, the housing contract sign-up process transitions to a campus-wide waitlist system. Spaces are offered as they become available until move-ins. Housing does not keep any building-specific waitlists. Students who have already signed a housing contract and add their name to the waitlist will be disregarded. 

In an effort to offer spaces in a timely manner to those on the waitlist, offer emails will be sent to the email address you provide to Housing Services on the waitlist form. You will be given 24 hours to complete the online contract process once an email is received.

  • Waitlist offers will begin on May 1
  • All waitlist correspondence will be sent to the email address you provide online to Housing Services when you add your name to the waitlist. Be sure to check email often for updates.
  • Being added to the waiting list does not guarantee that the you will receive a housing offer.
  • Placement on the list will be determined by submission date and time. 
  • When you reach the top of the list and is sent an email offer, you have 24 hours to complete the online contract process and select a room. 
  • Offers are sent Monday and Wednesday of each week to your preferred/ provided email address.
  • The waitlist is not for those who currently have an on-campus housing contract and are looking to do a building and/or room change.
  • If you do not complete contract process within 24 hours of email offer, you will be removed from the list.
  • This waitlist process is not intended for students with existing housing contracts. Those wishing to make building or room changes can do so through the room change process accessed through the Housing Portal.

Rates and Payment

On-campus rent is billed at a per-semester rate. In Single Student Housing, all utilities are included in the cost of rent. Housing and meal plan (if required) charges are applied to your University account along with tuition and fees. Review our Housing Rates and Dates page for more information.

Do you have a waiting list?

Beginning April 1, the contract sign-up process transitions to a campus-wide waitlist system. Spaces are offered as they become available until move-ins. Keep in mind we do not keep a waiting list for specific buildings or room types, and the waitlist is only for students who do not already have a housing contract.

I want to move to a different building/room. Can I do that?

Beginning in May,you can change your room and/or building booking through our online room change process. You will be able to check the real-time room availability 24/7. If there is a space you want you will log into the housing portal and make the change. It’s that easy!

How do I choose or find out who my roommates are?

During room selection, you will be able to view the name, email address, age, and answers to the lifestyle questions asked during the sign up process, of potential roommate(s) and they can view yours. If you have a friend(s) you’d like to room with, sign up at the same time and choose the same building. The date and time you are able to select your room is based on the date you complete the sign up process. Once room selection takes place you will be able to view roommates by logging into the housing portal and clicking the “View Roommate(s) Info” button. Roommate(s) can change depending on room changes and cancellations.

How and when do I pay my housing deposit?

The housing deposit ($200) and contract fee ($75) are paid during the sign-up process.  Once you begin, fill out your personal information and sign your contract, you will be prompted to pay your housing deposit and contract fee before you can complete the sign-up process.

Can I get my deposit back?

If you submit the online cancellation petition by April 15, 2026, you will receive a refund of the $200 security/reservation fee. If you cancel between April 16 and June 15, your deposit is forfeited but you are released from your contract. After June 15, you must meet one of the contract termination conditions to be released from your contract.

When is move in day?

Your housing contract begins on Saturday, August 29, 2026. However, if you are participating in Connections or would like to arrive earlier for any other reason, you may move in beginning Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at no extra charge. This is the earliest that we are able to let you move in so please plan accordingly. Classes begin Monday, August 31.
