Returning to Work After FMLA

When you are ready to return to work from your FMLA leave, if you were on continuous FMLA leave have your doctor complete the Return to Work Certification form clearing you for work. Return the form to HR or upload it to myfmla.usu.edu. Next, contact your supervisor to update them on your return to work plans.

Same or equivalent job

The FMLA guarantees that you can return to either your same job or an equivalent position, as determined by the university. “Equivalent” is defined as:

  • Same or substantially similar responsibilities and status
  • Same general level of skill and authority
  • Identical pay
  • Identical benefits
  • Same general work schedule at the same (or nearby) location

What do you do when FMLA leave has exhausted and you are unable to return to work?

If your FMLA has exhausted and you are unable to return to work contact Human Resources and your supervisor as soon as possible to review the next steps and potential options. If you need an accommodation upon your returning to work, please contact a USU ADA Coordinator. For more information, you can visit the accommodation webpage.

Human Resources can be contacted at (435) 797-0122 or hr@usu.edu
