What is Connections?
USU 1010: Connections is a two-credit academic course designed to ease your student's transition to Utah State. Connections is optional but highly recommended to learn exactly what it takes to be successful at USU and beyond. The course ends with a unique luminary procession — a reverse image of the commencement ceremony that will signify the end of their college career — a favorite of many Aggies.

Federal Aid (FAFSA)
Complete the FAFSA as early as possible to help you plan financially for the upcoming school year and meet tuition deadlines. The application is free and online at fafsa.gov. Federal Aid Counselors can answer questions about federal aid, and help you and your student navigate the process of paying for college.

Free money funded by the government.
Federal Work Study
Job-based funding for students with financial need that allows them to earn money to help pay education expenses. FAFSA submission is required.
Educational Loans
Borrowed money that is required to be repaid later on. Student loans, private loans, and parent loans are available to help cover education-related expenses.
Scholarships
With a few exceptions, incoming student scholarships have been awarded by the time Aggie Orientation begins. Incoming students were awarded scholarships according to the parameters listed on the admissions page, provided they applied to USU by the deadline. Incoming and continuing students can apply for USU college and departmental scholarships, as well as third-party private awards, by accessing the USU General Scholarship Application.

The Career Design Center oversees student employment and helps students find on-campus, off-campus, and work-study jobs through the Aggie Handshake link in the MyUSU portal. We recommend full-time students work no more than 20 hours per week in order to maintain balance.

TouchNet is a 24-hour service offered to students and their families for viewing bills, making payments, and managing their student account. Students may choose to pay monthly installments to cover tuition, student body, and class fees — plus on-campus housing and meal plans — throughout the semester, rather than all at once.

It’s normal for students and their supporters to have questions about how to finance expenses while in college. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment with a USU Financial Coach to create a personalized spending plan. Appointments are available in person on the Logan and Eastern Campuses, or virtually via Zoom.
FERPA
Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA)
FERPA is a U.S. federal law that protects the privacy of student educational records. FERPA protects your student’s rights by ensuring we don’t release any information to anyone without their consent; that includes you, as parents and guardians. In order for you to have access to this information, your student will need to go to myid.usu.edu, and assign you as a delegate. For more information, please visit the website above.
Delegates
As a supporter, in order to contact any university office and request student information, you must be a delegate. A delegate is especially useful for, but not limited to, students who may be taking a leave of absence from the university for church or military service. If your student plans to take a leave of absence, a delegate can assist them in making a smooth transition back to USU by acting on their behalf.
The adding, changing, or removing of a security phrase and/or delegates is the sole responsibility of the student.
What Can Delegates Do?
A delegate may act on a student’s behalf at USU, which means a delegate may:
- Have full access to the student's information.
- Change or update the student's information, including their password, and add an additional Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) method.
- Access the student's information in Banner, including their grades and finances, and add or drop classes on the student's behalf.

Aggie Creamery
With its origins in the basement of Old in 1890, the Aggie Creamery began producing cheese and butter. In 1922, had a new opportunity to make ice cream and the Aggie Ice Cream storefront opened, featuring pineapple raspberry ice cream. Today’s favorite is the studentcreated Blue Mint flavor—a must-try Aggie tradition campus visitors. Aggie Ice Cream is part of USU’s of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food Sciences where science students have gained real-world experience in production with delicious results for more than years.
Aggie Chocolate Factory
The Aggie Chocolate Factory is a bean-to-bar chocolate facility. Established in November 2018, it serves as learning and research center within the Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Sciences department. The ACF's mission is to educational, research, and outreach opportunities to high-quality chocolate production. Over 150 students annually participate in hands-on learning, covering the complete chocolate process. It also operates a gift shop visitors and families can purchase a wide variety of products.
USU is the only university in the U.S. with its own chocolate factory, which ties directly into the university’s academic programs and makes it a one of-a-kind learning experience.
The Aggie Chocolate Factory offers a dynamic selection of single-origin chocolates, showcasing beans from countries such as Guatemala, Ghana, Ecuador, Mexico, Haiti, and Brazil.

A Passport to Campus
The USU ID is securely stored digitally on a student’s smart phone and watch with a mobile credential. It is added to the student’s Apple Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or Google Wallet, making it convenient for accessing door entry (for on-campus housing residents), gym areas, libraries, dining locations, activities, student labs, testing centers, health centers, the campus store, and much more. Take advantage of the new secure Parcel Smart Locker system that replaced the old post office boxes. Located in the Taggart Student Center 1st-floor hallway outside Aggie Quick Print and Mail, the parcel lockers are available anytime the TSC is open for package pickup. When mail is delivered with your PO box number on it, it will be loaded into the lockers, and you will receive a text and an email with a barcode. You can access your mail or package at your convenience.

If you are worried about a student's well-being, safety, or ability to succeed at USU, you can submit a CARE Referral/Student of Concern Report to connect them with the support they may need. This can include concerns about mental health, academic struggles, financial hardships, food or housing insecurity, or any other significant challenges impacting their student experience. Reports can be submitted by students, faculty, staff, or family members at any time. The CARE Office will review the concern and provide outreach, resources, and assistance as appropriate.

As supporters, you play a vital role in supporting your student’s educational journey. Academic advisors serve as valuable partners in this process, helping students forge intentional connections with their strengths, interests, values, and aspirations. Together, advisors and students collaborate to craft an individualized semester-by-semester plan. Degree Works
This degree-auditing report shows students’ progress toward graduation. It allows them to look at other majors to see how many of the requirements they have fulfilled. It also has a planning tool that can allow students and advisors to plan schedules for future semesters. Degree Works can be found in the student’s Banner account and from their MyUSU Dashboard.

Getting Started with the Disability Resource Center
Many students will need accommodations at some point during their university experience. If your student has used an IEP, 504 plan, or had previous accommodations, the Disability Resource Center (DRC) is an important resource for them. If your student has not used services in the past but they have a medical, physical, or mental health condition that impacts school, the DRC may be able to help.
The Disability Resource Center helps students with disabilities more fully participate in all university programs, services and activities. Students who have, or suspect they may have, a physical, mental health, or learning disability that may require accommodations should contact the DRC as soon as possible.
It is easy to get started. Just schedule an appointment by calling 435.797.2444. During an initial appointment with an Accessibility Consultant, students will discuss their academic goals, the impact of their disability, and any educational barriers they are experiencing. Using this information, along with any documentation that may be needed, appropriate accommodations will be established.

COSAS promotes life-long active citizenship through Service & Sustainability programming. Education Outreach

Utah Conservation Corps (UCC)
UCC, an AmeriCorps program, collaborates with land management agencies in Utah for natural resource conservation projects. They offer summer positions for USU students with living allowances and education awards upon service completion.
Peace Corps Prep
The USU Peace Corps Prep program prepares students for international development and Peace Corps service. Completion earns a certificate endorsed by the director of the United States Peace Corps, enhancing their service application.
One Utah Service Fellowship

Eligibility
Any student, regardless of credits, is eligible
for a variety of services. For individual therapy during fall and spring semesters, undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits and graduate students must be enrolled in 6 credits to participate.

Cost
The majority of CAPS services are provided free of charge for eligible students. However, please note that there is a one-time fee associated with psychological and psychoeducational assessments.

Sexual Misconduct
Utah State University works to educate students about ways to prevent sexual misconduct, and to inform students about reporting options and available resources.
All incoming and transfer students are required to go through an in-person interactive, peer-led training about consent, healthy relationships, sexual misconduct, and ways to create a safer campus. Incoming and transfer students at Statewide Campuses, even online-only students, are required to complete an online course about the same topics.
