LOGAN, Utah — The Utah State University Men's Lacrosse team held a giant camp in July that was well received by participants. The camp drew in youth aged 8-18 in two separate camps held on the Aggie Legacy Fields July 26-28.

The event was organized and run by the men's lacrosse team presidency, players, and coaching staff, with the assistance of Amanda Bray and the campus rec staff. The camps were split into two age groups, with 8–14-year-olds brought in the morning, followed by 15-18-year-olds in the afternoon.

“In the camp we focused on fundamentals and key parts of the game,” said head coach Scott Bingham. “We wanted to help the players improve their lacrosse IQ. It is a fast-paced game, so we ran through drills that would help them make faster decisions during their games. At the end of each day the player who performed the best was given a prize from one of our sponsors, Adrenaline.”

The camp was held to help foster relationships between USU men's lacrosse and the several lacrosse clubs and teams across Cache Valley and the neighboring counties. Utah has become a hotbed for lacrosse teams and the sport is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S.

“We would like our program to be a big part of that growth and for the young players in the Valley to see us as an example of how to play the sport,” Bingham said.

Participants were put through drills and exercises to help them develop their skills. At the end of each camp, several awards were given out to participants.

“At the end of the camp we gave out two awards,” Bingham said. “The first one being the hustle award for the player that played with the most energy and hustled the hardest. They were awarded with some new mesh for their lacrosse stick. The other was the MVP award, which was awarded to the player that stood out the most. The player from each age group was awarded a game worn Utah State Lacrosse jersey from our previous set of jerseys.

The camp was enjoyed by all participants. USU player Spencer Bishop enjoyed interacting with the campers and is excited to keep the camps going and growing.

“We had multiple kids say that they were going to bring all their friends and teammates into next year's camps,” he said.
