Accessible Online Events
If you are planning an online event, make sure to start with our Accessible Campus Event Guidelines. Many campus events take place completely or partially online to reach a wider audience.
Provide an Accessible Online Platform
Most online campus events use Zoom, which has a number of built-in accessibility features. If using a different platform, reach out to Digital Accessibility Services to ensure that the platform can provide an accessible experience.
Let participants know ahead of time what technology will be used and any accessibility considerations participants need to be aware of. When using Zoom, we always recommend making sure that automatic captions are turned on for your event. For larger events or when requested, professional live captions are available. Contact captions@usu.edu to discuss live captioning options.
Additional Accessibility Support for Online Events
Below are some additional things to consider when hosting an online event:
- Make sure that online participants have contact information for an event accessibility coordinator who can provide live support for any problems that may come up during the event.
- If your event platform provides a live chat or the ability to interact with the presenter, consider assigning a moderator who can help manage the conversation and ensure it is accessible to everyone.
