Accessibility Exception Request

Utah State University is committed to providing equal access to all university programs, services, and activities provided through digital technology (Policy 5208: Digital Accessibility). There are some scenarios where an exception to USU Digital Accessibility Standards may be granted by the campus Digital Accessibility Steering Committee in consultation with the Office of Legal Affairs.  

An exception may be granted in the following scenarios:

  1. Where compliance is not technically possible or may require extraordinary measures due to the nature or intent of the resource (undue burden).
  2. Where compliance would result in a fundamental alteration of the digital resource, and not satisfy the original intent of the resource.
  3. Where the digital resource is not currently in compliance, but efforts are underway to fix the defects by a defined date, and an equally effective alternative for people with disabilities has been made available.

Funding issues related to any school, department, program, or unit of the university would not be considered for an exception. In most cases, exceptions will only be granted if an equally effective alternative means of access has been identified.
