Threads Accessibility

Threads is a text-based social media app where users can share images, videos, and links. Making sure that your posts are accessible on Threads helps ensure that people with disabilities can interact with and enjoy your content. See Social Media Accessibility for more information on general guidelines for social media.

Note: Threads is still adding features and updates regularly, so steps may vary over time. Currently, Threads doesn’t have built-in captioning for videos. If you share video content, use an external editor or app to add captions before uploading.

Alt Text

When adding images to Threads, it’s important to keep in mind users who are blind or have low vision. Adding alternative text, or alt text, is a way to make photos accessible to all users. Alt text is a concise description of images that screen readers use to convey the information in the image. See Alt Text Guidelines for tips on writing effective descriptions.

How to add alt text to Threads:

  1. Create a new post and click on the paper clip icon to attach an image.
  2. Upload your image.
  3. At the bottom left of the image, tap on the Alt badge and add your description.
  4. Click Done and post!
