Summer 2026 Honors Study Abroad Experiences

Understanding and making a difference in the local, national, and global community is an important part of Honors learning outcomes, and the program offers funding for any significant study abroad experience, as well as several specially designed opportunities for Honors students to study and earn together around the world. Please see specific descriptions for language skill requirements, if any.

Lore and Land of Fire and Ice - Iceland

June 2 - June 12, 2026

Academics/Credit: Earn 3 credits in ENGL or HIST 3700: Regional Folklore (DHA), WILD 2200: Ecology of our Changing World (BLS), or HONR 1350: Integrated Life Science (H) (BLS).

Explore the rich cultural history of Iceland through the lenses of folklore and natural resources! This study abroad experience explores how its people adapted to life in the dramatic “Land of Fire and Ice” through beliefs, practices, and artifacts, and explores ecological concepts through magnificent waterfalls, geothermal hot pools, and glaciers. Students will step into the world of Viking sagas and modern human-environmental interactions, visiting sites that tell the story of early settlements, Parliament of the Clans, and the clash between pagan traditions and Christianity.
