Life can be pretty tough sometimes. Why is it that some people can go through really rough times and still bounce back? The difference is that those who bounce back have resilience. Resilience is our ability to adapt successfully in the face of stress, trauma, or adversity and then bounce back to our normal state of functioning and well-being. The good news is that resilience isn't something you're born with or not. The skills of resilience can be learned.
This 4-session Building Resilience Program will provide you with skills to increase resilience during and after stressful life events, improve general well-being and enhance performance in demanding activities such as academics and sports. Research indicates that increased resilience can positively affect school and life outcomes for students, including academic achievement.
This program will introduce you to Mind-Body Bridging, an evidence-based practice that reduces distress and builds resilience. You’ll learn skills to increase awareness of your body, thoughts, and emotions, recognize unhelpful patterns, and reframe experiences to unlock your full potential.

Create your own cardboard Cryptid What is a cryptid? A cryptid is a mysterious creature—like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster—whose existence is claimed but not confirmed by science. Artist Clayton Bailey used his imagination and humor to bring these mythical beings to life, blurring the line between science and fantasy. In this playful sculptural activity, you’ll use cardboard pieces, fasteners, and fun materials to design your own cryptid creature. Will it have wings? Fangs? Camouflage fur? Let your imagination go wild! You’ll also get to name your creature and write a short “field tag” describing where it lives and what it does. All materials are provided. Step into the role of both artist and explorer as you dream up a new species never before seen by the human eye!

In this presentation, Professor Katherine Borland of the Ohio State University’s Center for Folklore Studies, will examine the dialogic dimensions of everyday storytelling using examples from the genre of miracle narratives. Inspiring wonder, the miracle and its corollary, the curse, capitalize on the subjunctive as-if quality of performance to conjure alternative worlds embedded in the everyday. Borland studies and teaches about the artfulness of ordinary life, and the ways in which traditional expressive arenas constitute contested terrain. Her areas of expertise include feminist oral narrative, festival and dance, and environmental humanities.

Justin Haskell began his career in the life insurance field, where he realized that Medicare plan solutions and final expense benefits were a growing need for people across the country. He decided to start Maximum Senior Benefits (MSB), a national company focused on offering these benefits while also providing peace of mind in the process. For over a decade, MSB has hired competitive, passionate sales professionals who seek to offer comfortable, tailored solutions to individuals and their families. Justin’s story starts well before that in the small town of Elk Ridge, Utah, where he spent his entire childhood, attending Payson High School and graduating in 1998. After high school, Justin served a Latter-day Saint mission in the Dominican Republic. He then attended Utah State University, majoring in International Studies with minors in International Business, Portuguese, and French. After graduating, Justin joined Best Buddies International, a nonprofit designed to help people with disabilities. While working for Best Buddies International, Justin moved across the country—from California to Florida—before finally settling in Utah to run Best Buddies’ Utah operation. During that time, he discovered a love for business and entrepreneurship, which led him to return to school and earn his MBA. Soon thereafter, he founded Maximum Senior Benefits. Watch the sun set on the Aggie Legacy Fields with our Sunset Spin class. It will be a high-energy cycling session set to motivating music as the sun goes down. March Building Resilience Online Workshop

Life can be pretty tough sometimes. Why is it that some people can go through really rough times and still bounce back? The difference is that those who bounce back have resilience. Resilience is our ability to adapt successfully in the face of stress, trauma, or adversity and then bounce back to our normal state of functioning and well-being. The good news is that resilience isn't something you're born with or not. The skills of resilience can be learned.
This 4-session Building Resilience Program will provide you with skills to increase resilience during and after stressful life events, improve general well-being and enhance performance in demanding activities such as academics and sports. Research indicates that increased resilience can positively affect school and life outcomes for students, including academic achievement.
This program will introduce you to Mind-Body Bridging, an evidence-based practice that reduces distress and builds resilience. You’ll learn skills to increase awareness of your body, thoughts, and emotions, recognize unhelpful patterns, and reframe experiences to unlock your full potential.

When Archives Talk to Each Other: Folk Song, Memory, and Intermountain Song Trails

This talk explores what happens when folk song archives are placed in conversation with one another. Drawing on folklorist Derek Piotr’s Fieldwork Archive, the Fife Folklore Archives, and their collaboration through Intermountain Song Trails, Joe Kinzer and Derek Piotr examine how contemporary song catching, centered on memory, fragments, and everyday voices, extends and reanimates earlier regional collecting efforts.
Cross Country Ski Trip

Join us for an afternoon of Cross Country Skiing on the Franklin Basin Road within Logan Canyon. This summer gravel road is closed to vehicles in the winter and offers snowy rolling terrain perfect for cross country skiing. As we glide along the trail, we’ll be surrounded by snow-draped pine and aspen forests, with towering limestone cliffs rising above the canyon walls. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun afternoon in the great outdoors. We plan to ski approximately 4 miles with 1100 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the evening just after dark.

Science Unwrapped - Why Queen Bees Can Have It All

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Our events begin with a brief presentation, and are followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. At our March 20 event: All living things, including people, face trade-offs. We only have so much time and energy to accomplish the things we want to do. Animals strive to reproduce, live as long as possible and defend their young, but sometimes they have to give up one or more of these goals. Queen bees, on the other hand, have lots of helpers that enable them to avoid more trade-offs than most other animals, and to accomplish more of what they want to do. USU biologist Karen Kapheim and her graduate students study the fascinating lives of social bees. Karen will tell us about the lives of queen bees, and will share what these creatures can teach us about evolutionary processes.

Yes, you're reading the title right, we're hosting our own HYROX-inspired event this spring! The series will include 3 miles of running, with 6 muscular endurance exercises. Participants will run 1/2 mile in-between each exercise. We'll have 3 heats available with men's, women's, and co-rec groupings, and the competition will be open to USU students and faculty/staff, as well as community members. There will be prizes for the top 3 finishers in each heat.

Since the 1980s, the Engineering Futures (EF) program has provided professional skills training to help engineering students and practitioners develop non-technical skills that are essential for personal and professional success. The initial EF program grew from chapter officer training workshops developed and delivered by member volunteers, and expanded to serve college students when the curriculum was donated by a professional skills training company. Session Topic - First Contact: Communicating with Purpose
Effective networking can foster learning, invite collaborations, and uncover new opportunities for personal and professional success. The "First Contact" module explores the ways that new people, new tasks, new resources, and new contexts can impact interpersonal communications. Participants will learn the value of First Contact in different settings (networking, teamwork, consulting) and build skills for communicating in unfamiliar situations, with the goal of developing connections, sharing ideas, and building partnerships.

Join the Utah Flute Association in their annual convention, hosted at USU for the first time in their 40-year history. Legendary jazz-flutist, Ali Ryerson will be the guest artist and her sponsorship is supported in part by a VASS grant. She will give a recital at 4pm in the Russel Wanlass Performance Hall featuring our very own Braun Khan on bass, a jazz improv workshop, and a flute choir reading session in which she will conduct. There will be other jazz inspired workshops and presentations throughout the day. This event is open to the public and although it is catered to the flute, if you are instrumentalist and would like to participate in the jazz workshops, please bring your instrument.

ArtSci students, come and learn about each other's field of study at our first 20x20 presentation event! This presentation style is dynamic, fun, and engaging. Each presentation is exactly 6 minutes, 40 seconds: 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each, advancing automatically. No clicker, no going back, just 20 seconds per slide, whether you’re ready or not.
Sign up to present your research, highlight a topic you think is cool, or simply come cheer on your fellow ArtSci students. Team presenters are welcome if you need moral support. You’ll leave amused, amazed, and maybe even inspired! There will be snacks and drinks for all.

Larry Smith Kicks Band Concert

The legendary Larry Smith Kicks Band presents its Spring Concert as it “Goes Latin.” This concert will present a full program of Latin Big Band music. The tunes will focus on the compositions and arrangements of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Eric Richards, Mark Taylor, Bob Mintzer, Arturo Sandoval, Duke Ellington/Claudio Roditi, Tito Puente, Michel Camilo, Ernesto Durate, and Carlo Walton - from Bossa Nova to Cha Cha to Salsa.
Special guests for this concert will include Latin percussionists Ned and Neo Smith, and include the vocal stylings of Monica and Naomi Fronk. Featured soloists from the band include Nik Clarke, Roger Karen, Skylar Harris, Kelin Gibbons, Jim Schaub, Danny Hankins, Jared Saunders, Greg Wheeler, Brian Baird, Andrew Stonerock, and many others. The Latin focus of this performance promises to have music for everyone.

Prior to her role with the company, Michelle cultivated more than 20 years of experience in the sports and entertainment industry, gaining business strategy expertise in marketing, sales, and human resources. Most recently, Michelle served as Chief People Officer for the National Basketball Association’s Utah Jazz franchise. March Building Resilience Online Workshop

Life can be pretty tough sometimes. Why is it that some people can go through really rough times and still bounce back? The difference is that those who bounce back have resilience. Resilience is our ability to adapt successfully in the face of stress, trauma, or adversity and then bounce back to our normal state of functioning and well-being. The good news is that resilience isn't something you're born with or not. The skills of resilience can be learned.
This 4-session Building Resilience Program will provide you with skills to increase resilience during and after stressful life events, improve general well-being and enhance performance in demanding activities such as academics and sports. Research indicates that increased resilience can positively affect school and life outcomes for students, including academic achievement.
This program will introduce you to Mind-Body Bridging, an evidence-based practice that reduces distress and builds resilience. You’ll learn skills to increase awareness of your body, thoughts, and emotions, recognize unhelpful patterns, and reframe experiences to unlock your full potential.

Salt Lake City Finance Career Trip

Join the Finance Club for a career exploration trip to Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, March 27th. This one-day experience will provide you with the opportunity to visit leading financial firms—including Fidelity Investments, Morgan Stanley, and Redo—and learn directly from recruiters and alumni about their roles, firm culture, and career paths. Throughout the day, you will engage with professionals, network with team members, and connect with HSB alumni currently working at these organizations. This trip is a great way to gain real-world insight into the finance industry while building meaningful professional connections. A pre-trip meeting will be held to review travel logistics and the day’s itinerary. Students may arrange carpools if interested. The first firm visit will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Fidelity Investments in downtown Salt Lake City, with the final visit expected to conclude around 3:00 p.m in Draper. A light breakfast and lunch will be provide.

The next Music Box Concert will take place on March 28th, when students from the Utah State University Music Department's Jazz Combo will introduce us to the world of jazz. The theme will be improvisation! We will also explore the role of each instrument in a jazz ensemble.
March marks the 10th anniversary of the Music Box Concert series! Over the years, top students from the Utah State University Music Program have generously shared their talents in strings, percussion, low brass, clarinet, harp, woodwind quintet, flutes, young vocalists, recorder, jazz, and brass quintet. Come and celebrate with us.
Music Box Concerts are 30-45 minute programs presented by the USU Music Department students and guests. They are designed to provide young children access to live music concerts and are sponsored by the Music Department in the College of Arts & Sciences and the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Education Endowment.

Aviation Week 2026 - Utah State Aviation Program Annual Banquet & Silent Auction

Come celebrate the Flying Aggies at the annual Aviation Program Banquet at the Logan-Cache Airport. Join us for a big Flying Aggie Reunion Celebration where we will recognize our outstanding students and raise scholarship funds with any items you can donate for our silent auction. The annual Silent Auction has raised over $2,500 for our students nearly every year with donated items such as airplane models, discovery flights, historical and aviation-themed items.
All paid guests will receive the 2026 annual program coin! Dress is business casual (open-collar, nice pants/skirt, dress/coat and tie are optional).

Lake Powell Kayaking

Join us for a weekend of paddling Sea Kayaks or Sit-on-Top Kayaks on Lake Powell. Kayaking here surrounds you with vast, awe-inspiring desert scenery shaped by water and time. Narrow side canyons invite exploration, revealing hidden amphitheaters, shaded alcoves, and winding waterways. At sunrise and sunset, the cliffs light up with warm color, and the calm water mirrors the canyon walls, creating a peaceful, almost surreal paddling experience. In the evenings we’ll camp on the lakes edge and stare at the constellations. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun weekend of paddling and exploring. On Friday we will pack all of the food, water, and gear into the kayaks and paddle to the Moqui Slot Canyon. Each day we will paddle 6-8 miles as we explore the Lake and Moqui Canyon. All participants must be able to swim.

Full Moon Hike
Recreation
Hike under the full moon with us on the Crimson Trail within Logan Canyon. Come see Logan Canyon under a different light, and if we’re lucky we will get to see the milky way through quiet forests and stunning mountain views. This trip is beginner friendly and we welcome people of all experience levels to join us for a fun evening in the great outdoors. We plan to hike approximately 4.5 miles with 1200 ft of total vertical gain. We plan to return to campus in the late evening.

After his fiancée Konstanze, his servant Pedrillo, and his fiancée’s chambermaid Blonde have been captured by pirates and sold to the harem of local Ottoman lord Pasha Selim, Belmonte attempts a daring rescue involving subterfuge, deceit, and no small amount of luck. As one of only two of Mozart’s Singspiele that are regularly performed (the other being The Magic Flute), this work combines his musical brilliance with light-hearted comedy delivered in spoken scenes in a style presaging modern musical theatre.

WILD 2450 & USU Wildland Fire Club S130 - Wildland Firefighter Training Field Exercise

Learn what it takes to become a Wildland Firefighter as part of the WILD 2450 - Wildland Fire Operations course. Field Exercise is part of the ongoing S130 - Wildland Firefighter Training. One does not need to be in the S130 training to participate in the field exercise. Held in conjunction with the USU Wildland Fire Club and a number of wildland fire agencies will be helping with the training.

The USU Bass Festival will take place on Saturday, April 4th in the Daines Concert Hall at the Utah State University Fine Arts Center. The festival is an annual event that provides bassists a chance to work with performers and educators from around the world and is open to bassists of any age and experience level. Festival activities include masterclasses, technique workshops, guest artist performances, and the opportunity to perform in a bass choir. Bassists desiring to participate in the all-day event can register at music.usu.edu/bassfest. This year’s guest artist is Baltimore Symphony bassist Nina DeCesare. Her recital at 6:00 pm will feature a performance of the complete Bach Cello Suites.

For most Americans, these stories feel like Disney inventions, but their true origins are far older, stranger, and more fascinating. During this presentation, USU Researcher Claudia Schwabe will take the audience on a journey back 200 years to discover the "original" fairy tales collected by two German brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. You'll learn that these tales were filled with sharp moral lessons, psychological terror, and bizarre magic. The Grimms’ world is a place where justice is brutal, the woods are truly terrifying, and “happily ever after” often comes with a dark price.

After his fiancée Konstanze, his servant Pedrillo, and his fiancée’s chambermaid Blonde have been captured by pirates and sold to the harem of local Ottoman lord Pasha Selim, Belmonte attempts a daring rescue involving subterfuge, deceit, and no small amount of luck. As one of only two of Mozart’s Singspiele that are regularly performed (the other being The Magic Flute), this work combines his musical brilliance with light-hearted comedy delivered in spoken scenes in a style presaging modern musical theatre.

Science Unwrapped - Earthquakes: Predicting the Unpredictable

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the free, public outreach program of USU's College of Arts and Sciences. Our events begin with a brief presentation, and are followed by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. At our April 10 event: You can see dark clouds forming in the distance and prepare for a storm. Hurricane forecasters can pinpoint disturbances over oceans, track their movements and predict where and when they might strike land. Not so with earthquakes, says USU geophysicist Srisharan Shreedharan – at least not yet. Srisharan and his graduate students make tiny earthquakes or “labquakes” in his innovative “earthquake machines.” At Science Unwrapped, Srisharan and master’s student Lindsey Broderick will share what they’re learning and how their efforts could improve earthquake forecasting broadly, and closer to home, along the Wasatch Fault Zone in Utah.

Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Aggie Rec Triathlon

Join us Saturday morning for our annual Aggie Recreation Triathlon. The race will be a 55-yard swim (11 laps), a 12-mile cycle on a spin bike, and then a 5k run. There will be 5 wave times at 8:30am, 9:15am, 10am, 10:45am and 11:30am. All registrants get a shirt and a race bib. There will be post-race food as well as various food and water stations throughout the race. Awards will be given to the top three male and top three female finishers. Registration is currently open until March 20th or when filled.

Inspired by Bill Albright’s Bear Series III – Teapot, this activity lets you turn an ordinary teapot into an extraordinary animal! Start with a paper teapot cutout, then choose from a variety of fun shapes—ears, tails, legs, wings, and more. Use your imagination to mix and match the pieces and create your own teapot creature. Will it be a Teapot Turtle? A Parrot-Pot? A Bear with a handle? There’s no wrong way to create—just have fun and make it yours!

Hangar Hop 2026 USU Flying Aggies

1940's themed big band swing dance! Come have fun in an actual aircraft hangar. Live music, 1940s dress encouraged! The USU Flight Team hosts the annual premiere fundraiser on Saturday, April 18th from 7:00-10:30 p.m. The aircraft hangar will be transformed into a 1940's USO style Hangar Hop with live music provided by the Cache Community Big Band, huge 60' parachute hanging from the ceiling and a vintage aircraft to take your dance photos. The USU Big Band Swing Dance club will provide dance instruction at 7 p.m and their demo dance team has been invited to give a demonstration. This is a wonderful event to help our USU Flying Aggies raise funds to train and travel to their annual Flight Team Regional competition. The cost for the dance is only $15 per person. Dance lessons, photo opportunities in historic aircraft, and refreshments are provided.

In Utah, nearly every one in five people live with a disability. Yet, the systems meant to support them still struggle to keep up. Dr. Matthew Wappett has spent his career working to reduce that gap. As Executive Director of the Center for Persons with Disabilities at Utah State University, he studies how stress, resilience, and inclusion intersect, and what communities, schools, and organizations can do differently to support those with disabilities Dr. Wappett will dive into the disability and social services challenges in Utah and showcase the research underway at the USU Institute for Disability Research, Policy and Practice (IDRPP) which has been at the forefront of disability services since 1972.

Brahms Requiem with the American Festival Chorus & Orchestra

AFCO celebrates one of the world’s most famous composers, Johannes Brahms, with one of his most popular and moving works, Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem). Audiences can look forward to being immersed in the grandeur, power, and comfort of this large-scale work for chorus, orchestra and soloists. The program will also include Fratres by Arvo Pärt, featuring Rebecca McFaul, violinist of the Fry Street Quartet.

Senior Design Night is USU's largest student innovation and technology expo. During their senior year, students spend about 400 hours designing and building capstone projects that address real-world engineering problems. Students showcase their projects at this free, family-fun event with hands-on demonstrations and activities for all ages.
