Community Art Day

You're invited to NEHMA’s Community Art Days! Join us at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art for a fun and meaningful craft activity based on the art in the museum. Community Art Day is fun for all ages. We encourage all to participate and express themselves through creativity and connecting with art.

The Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah was a boarding school that housed many Native American students. Students were a long way from home for long periods of time and missed their families and culture. They were given permission and paint by teachers to paint their meanings of home and culture on the walls. The Holy Beings is a student’s painting that shows three indigenous cultural symbols. Each one includes feathers for texture and to represent a connection to the creator. Each figure also features a colorful image of the student’s home or a part of it. Just like these students made art that reminded them of home, you can create your own felt ornament using thread and decorations to make something special to display in your home.
