Campus Recreation offers a variety of health and safety courses. Instructors are authorized and certified in their area of specialty. All listed courses are Blended Learning (eLearning and in-person session combination) unless otherwise listed or requested. Any online course content will be emailed to registered participants at least 3 days prior to the course.
CPR/AED/First Aid Courses

Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid
Purpose
The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Blended Learning course is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Training
Purpose
The purpose of the American Red Cross BLS Blended Learning course is to train healthcare professionals including nurses, physicians, EMS professionals, and other healthcare and public safety personnel to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants.

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer with First Aid
Purpose
American Red Cross Blended Learning CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Courses instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies. This includes using an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest.

Lifeguarding
Purpose
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning course is to provide entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. This certification is valid for 2 years.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age 15 years

Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest:
- Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.)
- Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs.
- Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.

Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds:
- Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.)
- Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.
- Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Lifeguarding Recertification
Purpose
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended Learning Recertification course provides current American Red Cross Lifeguards the opportunity to refresh their knowledge and skills to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prior certification is REQUIRED for entry into this course. This certification is valid for 2 years.

Lifeguarding Instructor
Purpose
The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor Blended Learning course provides experienced lifeguards with a vaild American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification the opportunity to teach entry level lifeguards.
Prerequisites
- Minimum age 17 years
- Possess a current basic-level certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding (including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid
- Pass a prerequisite test including a deep water submerged rescue, extrication, rapid assessment, and 3 minutes of single-rescuer CPR.

Purpose

- Minimum age 17 years
- Possess a current or less than 1-month expired American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor or Instructor Trainer certification

Looking for your certification after completing a course? Follow these steps to find your information:
- Go to redcrosslearningcenter.org
- Sign in using your email address that was used to register for the health & safety course
- Click on "My Certifications" located at the top of the page under the search bar.
- A list of your active and past certifications will appear if your information matches the system
- Click on the certification you want to view
- Select download or print to save a copy of your certificate for your records
NOTE: If your certification does not appear, click on "If you do not see your certificate listed below, click here to search for your digital certificate" in red writing. From here, you will type in any other email addresses you may have used for the course.
Private Group Health & Safety Course Inquiries
Looking to schedule a private Health & Safety course for your group? We are happy to provide private group Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid courses and Basic Life Support (BLS)* options for USU-affiliated and off-campus groups.
Private courses are available for groups with a minimum of 6 participants and maximum of 12 participants** to receive the listed rate.
- Instructor Fee: $120 per course
- Participant Fee: $50 per person

* Other courses (i.e., CPRO, LG, LGI, WSI, non-blended learning options, etc.) available on request with variable rates.
** Groups larger than 12 participants are possible but require an additional instructor, which will incur the appropriate additional instructor fee.
*** Campus Recreation may provide a space at no additional cost. Courses off campus are reliant on space compatibility for the course and a travel fee may be applied depending on distance traveled.

Cancellations can be made in-person, over the phone or by email. Course cancellations must be made more than seven days prior to the course start date in order to be eligible for a refund. Hybrid WFR course cancellations must be made more than two weeks prior to the classroom start date to be eligible for a refund.
