Kayak Roll Sessions

Come get your roll on!

Need to shake the rust off your roll during the off season? Want to help your boater buddy master their roll? Then come join us for our kayak roll sessions at Utah State! Outdoor Programs has nine Jackson whitewater kayaks (various sizes) with paddles and skirts at the HPER pool available on a first come, first served basis. Roll sessions are free for full time students and faculty/staff with a valid membership. All others must purchase a pass at the pool. Visit the Aquatics web page for pass pricing and memberships.

Fall 2026 Roll Sessions:

Spring 2027 Roll Sessions:

Have your own kayak? Personal kayaks (paddles & skirts) are allowed at roll sessions pending cleaning with soap and water and inspection by OP staff prior to the roll session. Kayak cleaning and inspections take place at the rental shop during business hours. Approved kayaks will receive a roll session tag to enter the pool. This tag must be attached to the kayak at all times while in the pool and returned to OP staff poolside at the end of the session(s). Dirt, debris, chemicals (oils, 303, soap) and foreign material that enters the pool from unclean personal kayaks, skirts, or paddles brought to the pool will result in the termination of roll sessions! To access the pool with your kayak, enter the HPER building through the east doors next to the ARC and sand volleyball courts. Personal kayaks may be stored at the pool for the duration of the semester's roll sessions with payment of a $20 storage fee at the Outdoor Programs rental shop.

Roll sessions are a fun, informal space to practice and learn with fellow kayakers. No formal instruction is provided by Outdoor Programs. If you would like formal instruction, consider taking the PE 1505 Kayaking course. Only USU Staff are authorized to teach within our facilities. Those providing formal instruction for personal gain during roll sessions will be banned and may be subject to USU disciplinary action.
