Transfering Credits
International UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

Before your transfer credits can be evaluated, International Undergraduate Admissions must receive official transcripts from each college or university for which you will request transfer credit review. Courses can be evaluated after you have accepted your offer of admission (paid the enrollment deposit or confirmed enrollment) to Utah State University (USU) as a degree-seeking student, confirmed your enrollment, and provided the required documents as given in the information below.

Eligible credits will transfer as direct equivalents to USU courses or as elective credit. To make a transfer request, follow the steps below. (Note: This process can take several weeks and at times, months.)

You may email us if you have questions about the transfer credit process for international transcripts.

1. Transferring Non-U.S. Credits

Requesting Official Transcripts

If you have not already done so, request official transcripts from each college or university you have attended. To be considered official, the school must send your transcripts in a sealed envelope to the address below.

2. Work with Your Academic Advisor to Understand Which Credits Will Be Most Beneficial for You to Request for Transfer

Work with Your Academic Advisor

Before completing the steps below, we request you to please work with your academic advisor so you can request for transfer your international credits that will be most beneficial to you in your USU program of study. International undergraduate students are not required to request all of the credits they earned from an international college/university outside of the United States.

If you are not sure how to find out who your academic advisor is, visit the Find My Advisor website and search for your program of study and schedule an appointment with your advisor. You may need to check the advisor's online schedule to see which advisor is assigned to you according to the first letter in your last name.

3. Provide Documentation

  1. Complete the Transfer Credit Request Form and email it along with the items listed below. In the text of the email, please include your full name and USU student ID number (called A- number).
  2. Attach form and additional documents (scanned as .pdf documents).

After all items are received, we will send your courses to USU department representatives for review. When the review is complete, they will give us a recommended USU equivalent course or in some cases, may determine that a course is not equivalent to a USU course and may not be transferred. Work with your academic advisor to understand which courses will be to your advantage to transfer to USU.

4. Information Required for Course Descriptions

A detailed course description or course syllabus is required for each course you wish to have reviewed for transfer credit, and must include the following:

Guidelines:

If the items above are not in English, each must be either printed in English language by the university, obtained from a university website, or translated into the English language by a certified translator. Email us to request suggestions for certified translation services.

5. Notification of Transferred Courses

You will be notified by email of courses approved for transfer credit.

Important: Your requested courses may not transfer in the way you anticipated.  For example an English language course you took at your international college/university may transfer to your USU student account as an elective course. Elective courses have 'XXX' in the coursed number as in ELEC 1XXX, or ENGL 2XXX, and so on.

We will provide you with a report showing how your requested courses will transfer to USU. After you agree that you understand how the courses will transfer and mark the courses you want to transfer, we will add the approved transfer courses to your USU transcript. We will notify you when your requested courses have transferred to your student account.

Note: This process can take several weeks or in some cases months, depending on the number of courses you wish to have reviewed, when all official transcripts, course descriptions and certified English language translations are received, and the availability of department reviewers.
