Toolkit: Guides
UST Story Submission
Before submitting a story for publication on Utah State Today:
- Double check to confirm your copy complies with USU’s official Editorial Style Guide.
- Check with faculty/students to confirm they are available for interviews in the days of/following publication on UST.
- If they are unavailable and/or out of town, preference is to hold the story until they are available.
- Be sure to include an appropriate photo.
- Should be 1600x900 but if you cannot resize, we can handle that as long as the photo is good quality and can be cropped to a strong horizontal image.
- 3-5 photos is best practice for media coverage.
- If you know you’ll be in need of photos for a story ahead of time, UMAC/Levi Sim may be able to accommodate but this needs to be scheduled in advance.
- Include caption information for every photo (except non-USU stock images), including who, what, when, and where details. Photographer credits use the following format at the end of a caption: (Photo credit: USU/Levi Sim).
- Make sure supervisor and story subject(s) have approved all story copy.
- If the story has potential for broad news coverage, consider scheduling faculty/student interviews with UMAC to accompany the story on UST.
- Additional information for submitting a story or press release can be found on the Utah State Today resources page.
