Swim Lesson Policy

Swim Lessons Make-Up Policy

  • Make-up lessons will only be provided if USU Campus Recreation Staff must cancel the class, the make-up day will then be announced to participants/guardians by the Swim Lesson Manager or Coordinator of Aquatics & Safety.
  • Make-up lessons will not be provided if classes are missed by the participant.

Unexpected Events During Swim Lessons

  • Swim classes may have to be transferred to the Large Pool (80 degrees) due to unforeseen events or events out of our control. Safety for your children is our priority and precautions are taken to ensure that lessons are safe and effective.
  • Swim classes may also have to be transferred to a classroom due to weather conditions. In the classroom the swim instructor will be able to continue the lesson and focus on our water safety topics including, but not limited to: discussions, videos, and activities outside of the water.

Requests for Transfer or Refunds are Subject to the Following Guidelines:

  • 4 or less business days (M-F) prior to the course start date:

Requests to withdraw from a course with less than 1-day notice may not receive a refund.

    • If the participant has attended one or two classes and your concerns cannot be resolved, a refund may be given on the discretion of the Coordinator of Aquatics & Safety, but not guaranteed.
    • Refunds are not available once a class has met three times, or if a participant fails to attend a program.

Private Lesson Notes

  • We will have limited offerings but there is potential for additional openings, so signing up for the waitlist via Rec Portal is important. We will not be able to add people to the waitlist via email.
  • Upon registering for a private lesson slot, you will receive an email from USU Aquatics or the Coordinator of Aquatics with more details on scheduling your lessons once registration has closed (7/3/24) or earlier. We will pair you with an instructor that best matches your level and availability.
  • As soon as you are paired with an instructor, they will reach out to schedule 8 lessons with you through the month of July. Cancellations must be communicated 24 hours in advance. Cancellations of a scheduled lesson less than 24 hours before will result in a no-show lesson and you will forfeit that lesson from your set of 8. Any lessons not used by July 31st will be forfeited.

Course Participant Requirements

USU Campus Recreation reserves the right to combine classes if there is insufficient enrollment, or cancel classes if combining levels is not an option. In the event of a cancelled class, a full refund may be given.

Health & Wellness Precautions

  • If your child has experienced any of the following:
    • a fever or vomited within the last 24 hours
    • diarrhea or intestinal flu within the past 2 weeks
    • green/yellow discharge from the nose
    • pink-eye, ringworm, or other contagious illnesses

Please keep them out of swim lessons and the pools. Transfers or refunds may be given based on the discretion of the Coordinator of Aquatics & Safety.

In order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, please ensure that your child takes a shower with soap and washes all parts of their body, including their rear, prior to and after entering the water.

Common Online Registration Issues

  • Emergency Contact not accepting ~ Log out of Rec Portal in your current browser and login to using a different browser or device, this often resets the cache and bipasses the Emergency Contact stall. In some cases, we may have to bipass this issue in-house by reseting your emergency contact in the back-end system.
  • Select Button not allowing lesson selection ~ Log out of Rec Portal in your current browser and login to using a different browser or device, this often resets the cache and bipasses the Select Button stall.
  • Age Limit block ~ Preschool lessons are designated for children between the ages of 3-6 and Levels are typically 6 and older. If you are getting a block, it is likely due to your student not fitting within our age limits. We require that you use your student's actual age due to the physical requirements of our lessons.

We are aware of some common issues with Rec Portal and have worked to remedy these prior to registration. However, we are not aware of all possible stall points and request patience when working to remedy the issue.

In the event that your lesson selection has filled, we highly recommend registering for our waitlist as this allows us to update our offerings based on demand. We will contact you the week prior to the session start in the event that a spot in your desired section becomes available or that we open an additional class offering.

For questions, please contact aquatics@aggies.usu.edu. Both call and email volume are high during swim lesson registration and it may take up to 5-10 business days to receive a response.
