College of Science Dean's Office Scholarships

There are numerous ways to find financial aid opportunities within the College of Science and through the USU Financial Aid Office. Each department offers scholarship opportunities to students in their programs. See the department webpages below for other department-specific scholarships.

Scholarships for Current Students

The application process for College of Science scholarships, as well as university-wide scholarships and scholarships offered through the College of Science’s academic departments, are managed through the university’s “ScholarshipUniverse” application page. Current students should visit this page to apply for all university, college and departmental scholarships. These opportunities include both merit-based and need-based scholarships. To apply for need-based scholarships, students must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The scholarship application period for the 2022-23 academic year opens December 1, 2021.

Scholarships for Incoming Students

Incoming students, both new freshmen and transfer students, can find information on both merit-based and need-based scholarships at usu.edu/scholarships/incoming. To apply for need-based scholarships, students must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The application deadline for most incoming student scholarships for Fall 2022 is January 10, 2022, but check the website carefully, as deadlines vary by scholarship type and campus.

College of Science Undergraduate Student Scholarships

Eligible students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.75, be in a major of one of the departments of the College of Science and be a full-time (12 credits or more) registered junior or senior for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Theodore M. Burton Scholarship

The Theodore M. Burton Scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding junior or senior with a major in the College of Science. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of demonstrated academic achievement and financial need. Consideration shall be given to female and minority students. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Campbell Scientific Science Scholarship

The Campbell Scientific Science Scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior student majoring in a discipline within the College of Science. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Oscar Wood Cooley Scholarship

The Oscar Wood Cooley Scholarship is a scholarship awarded to an outstanding junior or senior having a major within the College of Science. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Mary Ann McDonald Ebbeler Scholarship 

The Mary Ann McDonald Ebbeler Scholarship is awarded annually to science students who have a minimum GPA of 3.5.  

Dr. Joseph E. Greaves Memorial Scholarship

Dr. Joseph E. Greaves Memorial Scholarship recipients must be a junior, senior, or graduate student in related fields in the College of Science at USU. Recipients must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and personal Integrity.The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Dr. Robert Errol Jones Scholarship

The Dr. Robert Errol Jones Scholarship is awarded to students who are in their junior or senior year and have a selected major within the College of Science and have a minimum GPA of 3.5.

Lillywhite Scholarship

The Lillywhite Scholarship is awarded to students who are in their junior or senior year and have selected a major of Biochemistry within the College of Science and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Dr. Dennis M. Miller Scholarship

The Dr. Dennis M. Miller Scholarship is awarded to students who are in their junior or senior year and have selected a major of Biochemistry within the College of Science and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. If there is not a Biochemistry student that qualifies for this scholarship, a student with junior or senior status with a declared major within the College of Science and a minimum of GPA of 3.5 may be available.   

Ruth L. Novak Aggie Family Scholarship

It is Ruth L. Novak's desire that the Ruth L. Novak Aggie Family Scholarship, coordinated by the Dean of the College of Science, will allow flexibility in supporting students in areas, where the need is greatest.

Charles & Rae Perkins Scholarship

The Charles & Rae Perkins Scholarship is available to all students of Utah Student University, regardless of where the student is enrolled.

Dominon Energy Scholarship

The Dominon Energy Scholarship is awarded to either a graduate or undergraduate student, the scholarship rotates annually among the colleges of Business, Engineering, and Science. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Seely-Hinkley Scholarship

The Seely-Hinkley Scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding junior or senior with a major in the College of Science. Two scholarships awarded are based on superior performance and financial need. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Charles J. Sorenson Scholarship

The Charles J. Sorenson Scholarship award is given to an outstanding science student having high academic ability, personal integrity, providing civic leadership within the community, and demonstrating financial need. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Ned M. & Gail B. Weinshenker Scholarship

This Ned M. & Gail B. Weinshenker Scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in science. The scholarship will be rotated annually among five departments in the College of Science: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, and Geology.

College of Science Scholarships

The College of Science Scholarships award is given to an outstanding science student having high academic ability, personal integrity, providing civic leadership within the community, and demonstrating financial need. The student will be awarded a cash prize.

Available College of Science Graduate Student Scholarships

Claude E. ZoBell Scholarship

The Claude E. ZoBell Scholarship has been established by Dr. and Mrs. Claude E. ZoBell to assist and encourage students majoring in Science at USU within the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geology, and Physics. 

Joseph Reuel Harris Scholarship

Recipients of the Joseph Reuel Harris Scholarship are to come from students in either Chemistry & Biochemistry or Mathematics & Statistics departments. The Dean of the College of Science is charged with selecting the recipient of this scholarship.

Dr. Lawrence H. Piette Graduate Scholarship

Dr. Lawrence H. Piette Graduate Scholarship awards shall be made to Chemistry and/or Biochemistry graduate students demonstrating academic achievement and financial need. Careful consideration shall be given to female candidates.
