Another Route to USU

Many Aggies come to Utah State after attending elsewhere. In partnership with BYU-Pathway Worldwide, we have established a route to help you qualify for admission to USU. BYU-Pathway Worldwide provides courses to prepare students for success in higher education. Students that complete PathwayConnect 101, 102, and 103 with at least a 3.0 GPA meet the academic requirements for admission to Utah State University.

What Is the BYU-Pathway Worldwide Admission Option?

If your high school GPA is below the 2.8 admission standard, completing the required BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses with at least a 2.5 GPA can help you qualify for admission to Utah State University.

Through BYU-Pathway Wordwide, you complete (1) PathwayConnect 101, (2) PathwayConnect 102, and (3) PathwayConnect 103 with at least a 3.0 GPA. Upon successful completion of the courses, you will be admitted in good standing to a four-year program at USU.

The BYU-Pathway Worlwide courses must be completed with a passing grade by the admissions deadline for the semester you plan to enroll at USU. If you are not able to complete the courses in time, you can request to move your application to the next available term.

    • PathwayConnect 103
  • Apply for admission to Utah State University (if you have not already done so).
  • Review what's next after admission (orientation, USU class registration, FAFSA, housing).
  • Become an Aggie.

Deadlines & Timeline

You can apply to Utah State University prior to completing the three BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses, but the courses must be completed before you can be admitted to USU. If you are not able to complete the required courses in time, you can request to have your USU application changed to a later semester. Keep the following USU admissions deadlines in mind to avoid having to adjust your admission term to a later semester.

  • Priority Admission Deadline: Last day to be admitted before priority registration.
  • Final Admission Deadline: Students admitted after this date may be deferred to a future semester.

Students strengthen career skills, learn decision-making strategies, practice professional communication, and collaborate with others to solve problems.

UNIVERSITY SKILLS
Students discover and strengthen the skills they need for continued success throughout a university degree program.

Terms and Conditions

Please note that by pursuing the BYU-Pathway Worldwide option you are agreeing to the following:

  • I understand that my admission to the university is contingent on my completing the three BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses with a 3.0 cumulitive GPA.
  • I understand that I will need to apply for admission to BYU-Pathway Worldwide to register for the required courses.
  • I understand that I need to apply for admission to USU by published deadlines and meet all USU non-academic admissions criteria. 
  • I understand that I am not officially a Utah State University student until I begin my first semester at USU.
  • I understand that I can work with USU to change my application to the next available semester if more time is needed to complete the BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses.
  • I understand that I should only sign a housing contract if I feel confident that I can complete the BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses prior to the admissions deadline for the semester I wish to attend USU.

To participate in the BYU-Pathway Worldwide partnership students must:

  • Have a cumulative high school GPA below 2.8
  • Be an incoming first-time or transfer student with less than 24 post-high school credits
  • Have applied for admission to USU within the past year (through applynow.usu.edu)
  • Meet all USU non-academic admissions criteria
  • Receive a formal offer of admission from the USU Admission Office prior to beginning classes at USU

The BYU-Pathway Worldwide admissions option is for students with below a 2.8 high school GPA. In addition, students must meet the following eligibility requirements

  • Be an incoming first-year or a transfer student with less than 24 post high school credits.
  • Have applied for Admission to USU within the past year. (Apply at applynow.usu.edu.)
  • Receive a formal offer of admission from the USU Admission Office prior beginning classes at USU. (While lower high school grades will not disqualify a student from being considered for the BYU-Pathway Worldwide admissions option, applicants are still required to demonstrate that they meet all non-academic university admissions requirements such as meeting the university’s English proficiency requirement and demonstrating that they can behaviorally be a good citizen at USU.)

No. You will take BYU-Pathway courses prior to being admitted to Utah State, so you are not considered to be enrolled (or matriculated) at USU while you take these courses.

USU ID cards are given to incoming students after they are admitted during the orientation process. You will take BYU-Pathway courses prior to being admitted to Utah State, so you will not be able to get a USU ID while you take the BYU-Pathway courses.

You will earn college transfer credit equivalent to USU 1730 - Strategies for Academic Success after completion of the three BYU-Pathway courses (PathwayConnect 101, 102, and 103).

Since you cannot be admitted to Utah State University until after successfully completing the BYU-Pathway courses, you are not able to live in on-campus housing or use various student services that are available to enrolled students while you are taking your BYU-Pathway courses.

If you need a little more time to complete your BYU-Pathway courses, you can request to have your admission moved to a future semester. Please note that you should consider the likelihood of your completing the course by the USU admissions deadline prior to signing any housing contracts.

After you complete your BYU-Pathway courses you will need to:
  1. Apply for admission to Utah State University (if you have not already done so).
  2. Request that BYU-Pathway Worldwide send a copy of your transcript to the Utah State University Admissions Office.

Once you are admitted and begin classes at USU, you will be like any other student at the university. It is important to note that all students enrolled at USU follow the same “academic standing” policies, which state that if your institutional GPA falls below a 2.0 the university will provide extra support and accountability during subsequent semesters. If your GPA remains below a 2.0, you may ultimately be suspended from the university so you can take time to reassess your educational plans and needs.

The BYU-Pathway Worldwide admissions option is for first-year students and transfer students with less than 24 post high school credits. It is typically NOT available for other students, although exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis as determined by the Admission Committee.

Apply for BYU-Pathway Worldwide and complete the following three classes with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA:

  • PathwayConnect 101
  • PathwayConnect 102
  • PathwayConnect 103.

You will need to log in to the BYU-Pathway Worldwide website and request that a transcript be sent to USU. You will also need to apply for admission to Utah State University (if you have not already done so).

Most students can be admitted to their chosen major at USU after completing the BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses. Some departments such as those within the Huntsman School of Business, Engineering, and Physics, and others have requirements above basic university requirements. For those majors, you will be placed in Undeclared/Exploratory and can work with an advisor to discuss admission requirements and work toward possible admission to your desired major at a later time.

Yes, the BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses must be completed with a passing grade by the final admission deadline for the semester you plan to enroll at USU. If you are not able to complete the courses by the deadline, you can request to move your admission application to the next available term.

Housing FAQ

No. You will need to complete your BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses and be admitted to USU before you can reserve a spot in on-campus housing.


Only Utah State University students are allowed to live in on-campus housing. Since the BYU-Pathway Worldwide courses are not USU courses, you are not allowed to live in on-campus housing while you complete the courses.
