Teach from a Classroom Hybrid F2F

Hybrid F2F classes involve students attending in person as well as via Zoom. Teachers are in charge of scheduling and managing their Zoom calls, unless a facilitator is requested (view the Facilitator section at the bottom of this page). Click on a button below to jump to that portion of this page.

Steps to Prepare

1

Make sure your USU Zoom account is active by signing into zoom.usu.edu Opens External Page

4

Find the classroom you will be teaching from and do a test run (fill out this classroom training request form Opens External Page if you need assistance)

Use Individual Devices in the Classroom

If you want all of your students (including those attending in-person) to utilize Zoom features like breakout rooms and polls, they will each need to be on individual devices. Please note that when they connect to the call in a classroom, the audio needs to be  disconnected on their device. If it is not disconnected, an audio feedback loop will occur.

Disconnect audio in one of two ways:

Option 1
When joining the meeting, a window should pop up asking how you would like to connect to audio. Simply select the in the top right corner.

"Join with computer audio" pop-up window.

Option 2
Select the arrow next to the mic icon in the bottom left and select Leave Computer Audio

Instructions to leave computer audio in a Zoom call.

Note: If breakout rooms will be used, it is strongly recommended that all students in the classroom use headphones.

Connect to Zoom in the Classroom

To launch your Zoom call in a classroom, it can either be started on the computer or via some touch panels, depending on the room. Click on a button below to jump to that portion of this page.

Connect with the Computer

Connecting to a Zoom call on a classroom computer is the same process as if joining from a personal device. For more information about starting a meeting, go to the Meeting Basics page along the left navigation.

Make sure the correct camera source is selected by clicking on the arrow next to the camera icon*

*A lapel microphone is available in all classrooms for instructors to use, and it is necessary for those over Zoom to hear. Most rooms also have instructor cameras installed on the back wall.
For student microphones and cameras, check the Classroom Information website Opens External Page , which gives details about what kind of equipment is available in each room. You can also check out the Classroom Tech page  for more instructions on using those microphones and cameras.
