Teach from Classroom to Individuals
All students attend class on Zoom from individual devices. No classrooms around the state are connected.
Steps to Prepare
The Zoom call will automatically be scheduled for your course. The first two steps in the following list need done before scheduling can create the meeting:
Activate your Zoom account by signing into zoom.usu.edu Open External Link
In Canvas, set your preferred email and enable Zoom in your course
Do a test run in your classroom (contact the Classroom Support Open External Link team if you need assistance)
Recordings
If you would like your class automatically recorded without having to open Zoom on a computer, open the Zoom integration in Canvas. Click on one of the call titles, and then select edit this meeting. There is an option at the bottom of the page to record the meeting automatically. Select save to the cloud next to it. If you would like assistance, please email scheduling or cooper.gray@usu.edu.
Use individual devices in the classroom
If you want to use the classroom touch panel to connect (more info below) but want to use Zoom features (like breakout rooms and polls), you will need to connect on a device other than the one being shared as content. Please note that when connecting to the call in a classroom, the audio needs disconnected on the device. If it is not disconnected, an audio feedback loop will occur.
Disconnect audio in one of two ways:
When joining the meeting, a window should pop up asking how you would like to connect to audio. Simply select the x in the top right corner.

Select the arrow next to the mic icon in the bottom left and select Leave Computer Audio.

Connect to Zoom in the Classroom
To launch your Zoom call in a classroom, it can either be started on the computer or via some touch panels, depending on the room. Click on a button below to jump to that portion of this page.
Use a Classroom Touch Panel: HH
*Available in Huntsman Hall 270 and 326
Connect with the Computer
Connecting to a Zoom call on a classroom computer is the same process as if joining from a personal device. For more information about starting a meeting, go to the Meeting Basics page along the left navigation.
Sign into the Zoom application (this only needs done the first time in a classroom, then the computer will remember you)
Start the Zoom call
Test the speaker and microphone from the arrow next to the mic icon*
Make sure the correct camera source is selected by clicking on the arrow next to the camera icon*
*A lapel microphone is available in all classrooms for instructors to use, and it is necessary for those over Zoom to hear. Most rooms also have instructor cameras installed on the back wall.
For student microphones and cameras, check the Classroom Information Open External Link website, which gives details about what kind of equipment is available in each room. You can also check out the Classroom Tech page for more instructions on using those microphones and cameras.
Connect with and Use a Touch Panel
Some classrooms have Zoom integrated with the touch panels. Huntsman Hall 122, 124, 132, 270, and 326 has that integration, along with any room with a Touch 10.
