This page provides an overview of Cidi Labs DesignPLUS new sidebar including information on how to get started with the DesignPLUS Sidebar and how to switch from the legacy sidebar to the new sidebar.

Switching from the Legacy Sidebar to the New Sidebar

If you want to use the tools and features of the new DesignPLUS Sidebar and you’re using the legacy version of the Design Tools, you need to switch to the new sidebar. This new sidebar has a more modern interface and increased functionality, and you can access it the same way as before.

Accessing the Upgrade Tool

If legacy content is found on the page, there will be a notification with a link to launch the Upgrade tool.

Access the Upgrade Tool

This can be done in one of two ways:

  1. Go to the Accessibility/Usability tab and select the Upgrade tool in the Usability section, or
  2. Open the DesignPLUS notifications in the bottom of the Sidebar.

Use the scan results to identify needed legacy upgrades

Legacy upgrades fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • Warning: added to any component that might need additional attention before you upgrade
  • Link Caution: added to any items where updating might cause issues if you have manually created links that point to a specific element ID
  • Style: impact the look and feel of content
  • Structure: updates necessary for the new sidebar to recognize and edit legacy content
  • Functionality: interactive or dynamically built items

Features

The Upgrade Tool has the following components:

  • Scan Again: performs a scan of the page contents to refresh the list of legacy content identified
  • Upgrade All: completes the upgrade process for all legacy content identified on this page
  • View Individual Upgrades: shows all legacy Design Tools content (This allows you to upgrade instances of a specific content type.)
  • Symbol Key: explains the icons on the Content Type expander headings
  • Content Type Expanders: expands content to upgrade specific instances or to upgrade all instances of that type
  • Upgrade All of Type Button: upgrades all of the content type
  • Upgrade Instance: upgrades one instance at a time

Upgrading Legacy Design Tools Content

The upgrade tool only works one page at a time. Since legacy content will still render properly, you only need to upgrade pages that you intend to edit with the new Sidebar.

Review the scan results identified by the Upgrade Tool

This can be done in one of two ways:

  1. Click Upgrade All Items to perform a bulk upgrade for the whole page, or
  2. Open the content expanders to perform targeted upgrades

Click Save to apply your changes after all legacy elements have been upgraded
