Create a Google Assignment in Canvas

Sign into your Google Drive

If you don't have a Google account yet, you can create a school account.

Create a new Doc / Sheet / Slide

Create the assignment template

Click Share

Change the General Access setting to Anyone with the link

Click Copy Link

Paste the link in the URL and locate where it says '.../edit...'

Replace '/edit...' with '/copy'

Copy the new URL

  • Mac: Command + C
  • Windows: Control + C

Paste the URL in the assignment description

You will also want to include instructions for your students to submit their assignment in the Website URL tab and not the Google Drive tab. If they use any other tab than the Website URL, it will NOT work.

Select Online as the Submission Type in the dropdown, then select Website URL

Fill out the rest of the assignment settings and click Save and Publish
